That's a blazing fast computer. That 55TC mobo is a nice board. Very nice on the i5, and very soon, as soon as I can get it, I will be getting that very video card. _________________

If you approve, that's good enough for me! :P
I'm basically giving this wishlist out as my xmas list (plus WoW: Cata), so hopefully I'll have all the components by spring. _________________

I was gonna make a wishlist out of the stuff I built my computer out of earlier this year, but wouldn't you know it, most of it isn't available anymore. But luckily, I was still able to find my order histories.
Quote: | Tower - Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Storage - Western Digital Elements 1TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive WDBAAU0010HBK-NESN (Didn't need an internal since I had some already, but I later traded this for an internal 1.5TB)
RAM - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL6D-4GBMQ
Motherboard - GIGABYTE GA-MA785G-UD3H AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
Processor - AMD Athlon II X3 435 Rana 2.9GHz 3 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM3 95W Triple-Core Processor ADX435WFGIBOX
PSU - Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Continuous Power ATX12V Ver.2.2 / EPS12V version 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply
DVD - ASUS Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - OEM
Video card - XFX GS250XZDFU GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card |
Probably cost me around $700, maybe a bit more. Hasn't broken on me yet! _________________

Pretty nice system, Flannel. I like those multicore Athlon IIs. Fantastic for that price range.
Anyway, I'm still rocking my desktop I built 2 and a half years ago ( Q6600, 8800gt, 4 DDR2 gigs ram), and it suits my needs fine. Plays startcraft 2 on max, along with all the other games I play. Lately though I've been inheriting old laptops (about to get number 3 quite soon though). Oldest one makes a great seedbox, if I would ever turn it on. Need to figure out how to SSH into it and such. My main laptop is a ~2008 ish macbook, 2.4ghz duo, 2 gigs ram. Runs real nice with Ubuntu.
As far as building goes, I've been helping friends with builds. Most recent one was the tomshardware $1,000 september build. It's way nice. HAven't gotten to use it personally, though I've seen the hardware, and it's beautiful. |

Sounds good. Yes it is a very fast computer.. the 55TC boards are rock solid. Can't overclock with them, but, I see no point into overclocking any i5... lol.
If I make any suggestion, its the hard drive. I'm a Western Digital fanboy... never had an issue with one. I had one die on me, that was quite old... and right now I am looking at 7 WD drives that have been in systems at some point, and not one died on me. I was running 3 320gb's and a 250gb. I decided I didn't need 3 OS's anymore (XP, 7, Ubuntu), and I had the money to get a single 1TB, so I just did that. _________________

Yeah I'm not worried about the harddrive, since I have like 5 TB in externals in 3 different brands. I might just throw in a cheap 320 GB or something., save a few bucks.
And yeah, I went back and changed the mobo;...definitely worth it _________________

Alright, I think its time for me to upgrade from my Asus laptop that I have had for about 2 years or so. It ran very well the first year, but after that it just went to crap with running WoW and SC2. I know I will be buying a desktop this time for sure, but im not sure how i will go about doing this.
Im guessing that building my own is the best option by reading your posts. If i were to build my own, what do you guys recommenced? im looking at around $1500 or less and will run WoW/SC2 with little or no FPS drop.
Oh by the way, im not super good with computers, so if you could explain a little more, that would be greatly appreciated. |

I need a gaming laptop (I know, lol, rofl, etc.), preferably within a budget (Christmas Money Budget, 900 or below if possible). Just needs to be beast for games (WoW, LoL, etc. The more, them merrier). Any suggestions? I don't need one with 1 TB of Hard Drive or something, I can always upgrade that easily.
EDIT: What about this one?
Or this one? seems pretty good for a good price |

The one on tiger direct seems better, as it has a GTX260M, which is the mobile version of the GTX 260 (orly?). A 4250 sounds less powerful than a 4650, which is INDEED a lot less powerful than a GTX 260. Don't quote me though. And a powerful dual core is perfectly fine for gaming. Quad core is overkill unless you're playing Bad Company 2 or GTAIV.
Oh and my rig is purrty guud nao...
Pentium 4 3.2ghz HT (Don't make fun)
1.5gb of DDR 400mhz RAM
HIS IceQ ATI HD Radeon (needz moar labels) 4670 1gb
350w Antec PSU
320gb 7200rpm HDD
Runs portal maxed out at 1280x1024 with x16 AF and x4 AA. Also runs Bioshock maxed out. _________________

Useful website is useful.
Does anyone know any games that almost completely rely on a GPU? Since my CPU is a massive bottleneck, I can't play some games that utilize the processor that much. _________________
