I'm somewhat new to this genre, so I'll start the thread of out with some of the stuff I've heard so far.
Anamanaguchi (From the Scott Pilgrim game soundtrack):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJ4CaHqR4XI
Bit Shifter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAAZ0ue80B4
Animal Style: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aOWw2OXmlw
So does anybody else here have any bands they'd like to suggest?
EDIT:
Thank you woozerkristen for cleaning up the thread. I've added cover to the title so there can be 20% less smartass remarks. Now please continue the real discussion of music related to the title. Now I'm going back to Dragonball. _________________

That is clearly one of the best things I've ever heard. Hitting iTunes for their stuff as soon as I've finished writing this post.
Yeah, I'm a huge fan of chiptune... I'll keep it brief otherwise I'll be here all day.
Superpowerless: http://www.myspace.com/superpowerless (great music, nice guy if you get to chat with him)
Tetrastar: http://www.myspace.com/tetrastar (Superpowerless with a hot girl singing)
arcadecoma.: http://www.myspace.com/arcadecoma
:( (pronounced as in the following URL): http://www.myspace.com/colonopenbracket
Sabrepulse: http://www.myspace.com/sabrepulse
Crystal Castles: http://www.myspace.com/crystalcastles (sort of relevant, anyway.)
Henry Homesweet: http://www.myspace.com/henryhomesweet
Pixelh8: http://www.myspace.com/pixelh8
Nadia Oh: http://www.myspace.com/nadiaoh (sort of, maybe, possibly relevant, at a stretch - you might know her from that song 'My Egyptian Lover' that she did with Space Cowboy)
Mr Kitty: http://www.myspace.com/mrkittydm (mostly IDM, but has done some great chiptune stuff too)
Jump Start Heart: http://www.myspace.com/jumpstartheart
Amy Can Flyy: http://www.myspace.com/amycanflyy (chiptune/pop-punk hybrid - 'Go Go Gadget Happy Heart' is one of my favourite songs ever).
Eric Chiptune: http://www.myspace.com/ericchiptune
Arcade Eden: http://www.myspace.com/arcadeeden (sorta relevant)
MexicoFALLZ: http://www.myspace.com/mexicofallz (chiptune/pop-punk hybrid)

Wroooaar!: http://www.myspace.com/wroooaar (Venix under a different name)
You Love Her Coz She's Dead: http://www.myspace.com/youlovehercozshesdead (they're brilliant live, if you get the chance)
Unicorn Kid: http://www.myspace.com/unicornkid
Casiokid: http://www.myspace.com/casiokidmusic (guitars involved, etc)
Smile Like Texas: http://www.myspace.com/smileliketexasuk
Talk To Animals: http://www.myspace.com/talktoanimals
Stefn'Ari: http://www.myspace.com/stefnari
Cerebral Scars: http://www.myspace.com/cerebralscars
Breakbeat Heartbeat: http://www.myspace.com/breakbeatheartbeat
Nordloef: http://www.myspace.com/nordloef
Other stuff that's not quite chiptune but occasionally sounds similar: Cursor Miner, MSTRKRFT, Boys Noize, Space Cowboy.
Wow, okay, that went on longer than I intended. Also, you'll probably find http://www.8bitpeoples.com and http://8bc.org quite good sources for stuff.
EDIT: That huge list, and I forgot Girljoy: http://www.myspace.com/girljoyv2 _________________

Wow thanks for the huge list of suggestions thecaptainof. I definitely have some music to check out later on tonight.
And for more Anamanaguchi go to http://www.anamanaguchi.com/singles for more stuff. During this summer they have been releasing a new single every 2 weeks and it's available for download and streaming for free on the site.

Man how could I forget HORSE the Band? Probably the most famous nintendocore band I know of. I have their album Desperate Living and love it. I've been meaning to check out their earlier stuff for like 4 years now, :P. _________________

Silly of me not to mention Horse The Band too, particularly as it was their singer who actually invented the term 'Nintendocore'. But yeah, that list was just the ones from my Myspace friends and iPod :P _________________

And any suggestions for original 8-bit video game soundtracks? And games in particular that are worth a listen to?
Edit: Its also worth mentioning that to somebody not into this type of music, Powerglove could easily be mistaken for a Nintendocore/etc. band. _________________

Now, I have no recommendations myself but wanna say thanks for all the stuff posted so far. It's brilliant and I've spend the last few hours listening to loads of stuff.
Are there any charts for this stuff, it would be fun to play xD _________________

Their best one (or at least my favorite) would be The Mechanical Hand. Although R. Borlax has some pretty good stuff on it too. A Natural Death is alright. _________________

Ok, the off-topic stuff -- and ensuing argument about mentions of bands not technically in this genre -- have been removed now.
Please, if you find someone posting something here that you feel does not belong, please just report it. There's no reason to jump all over them. In this case, it looked like an honest misunderstanding of what defines the genre mentioned in the OP. If you absolutely must say something, particularly if it is clarification future posters may find helpful, try to say it in a tactful way.
Thanks and carry on. _________________

Heh, okay. Since you've changed the title an' all, I guess I have no further input apart from The Black Mages. I'm not really a fan, but they're relevant. Wikipedia or Youtube the name if you're not familiar. _________________

Has anyone noticed how the battle music during pokemon battles on leaf green & fire red has been given the St.Anger snare treatment
it sticks out like a sore thumb _________________

Is dubstep / drum n bass relevant? Just askin.... I do like those.
But I do love 8-bit and 16-bit music, especially remakes of good songs and especially metal _________________

Anamanaguchi and Sabrepulse already mentioned? Cool, saves me some work. Also, for anyone who doesn't know, Anamanaguchi's first album was free as well. You can find it here. Also, Scott Pilgrim's OST is probably one of the best game soundtracks I've heard in a while.

I assume you mean actual game soundtracks, so here are some 8-Bit soundtracks I can think of:
Double Dragon I and II
Journey to Silius
ALL THE NES MEGA MANS
Gremlins 2
DuckTales
Bionic Commando
Contra
Super Mario Bros. 1-3
Also, I'll throw out some recommendations. First is Retro Remix Revue, they're a game cover band that does some great stuff that isn't just metalizing game stuff. (Not that that's bad or anything.)
Second is the Bit.Trip games/soundtracks. They're pretty awesome and catchy. _________________
