I have been playing DDR via StepMania for a while, but since I have a PS2 now that I got just to play guitar hero I thought I'd pick up at least one of the DDR games to have the "Real Game" to play... but there are quite a few versions out there. Which one do you all think is the best? And what are the key differences between them other than the songs? Which one in your opinion has the best songs?

I don't care so much about challenge level since I pretty much suck at the game

Opinions anyone?

Thanks!

DDR Extreme (JP) is considered by many (I read it somewhere, but I don't remember where) to be the best PS2 DDR game, but you'll need to mod your PS2. It has many of the Max songs, including the infamous Max.(period). It has a lot of songs from the DDR Extreme arcade machine. I haven't tried the PS2 version.

DDR Extreme 2 (US) has around 70 songs, and I think it's pretty good. It has a "dance master" mode with some unusual challenges, like "don't hit the red arrows", "get N.G. on all freeze arrows" or "get a score between X and Y". Notable songs included are Paranoia Survivor (+ max) and Sakura and many other songs from DDR Extreme plus some licences. The scoring system is different from DDR Extreme (and Stepmania), the max score is 10 mill regardless of the difficulty level. The European equivalent is Dancing Stage Max.

Another very good game is In The Groove (by Roxor/RedOctane), which has upped the maximum difficulty level considerably compared to DDR. It also has many songs of lower difficulty, but their licensed songs are lesser known. If you get extremely good, this is the game to get. A PC version is also coming out very soon.

DDR Supernova for PS2 will come out in September 2006, and will surely contain many of the songs from the arcade.

I'd recommend MAX2 or Extreme 2. I really like a lot of the songs on Extreme 2 that aren't on the arcade, like Love is Orange, Wonderful Night, Quickening, and ... BOOM BOOM DOLLAR (KOG G3 MIX)! (Unless you have a 3rd mix machine somewhere near you...). MAX2 has a lot of good 9 footers, like So Deep, Xenon, End of the Century, and i feel...

You don't even know what you're talking about, do you? Ultramix 4 isn't out yet.

Max, Max2, and Extreme 2 US are all good. Extreme US is riddled with errors.... Buy it if you really like DDR, but if you're not a huge fan of the game, skip it. The other 3 are all very unique.

The US mixes are terrible. In The Groove is better than all of them.

If I hear IEatGlue mention Max2 again in this thread, so help me I am going to ban him (or do something equally as bad).
