If he could just get to that point, I would absolutely vote for him... but unfortunately (as with previous years) I just don't see him making it to the ballot. _________________

I am uncertain how much Americans truly want a return to the gold standard or the abolition of the IRS.
That said, Congress would probably limit what he could do, regardless of which party was in charge of it, because he has too many positions that are contrary to both of them. _________________

[nods] There are no shortage of Ron Paul positions which I personally rank somewhere between starkly naive and comically eye-roll-inducing. He has a snowball's chance in hell of winning the Republican nomination, though, to say nothing of the presidency itself, so it's not something I put in a ton of cycles concerning myself with. _________________

Ron Paul is good, but Gary Johnson is better, at least in the economic sphere:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Johnson
He served as governor of New Mexico for two terms (1993-2005). He had line-item veto power, letting him eliminate anything not worth the cost. If you watch his interviews, he states that he did a "cost benefit analysis" on pretty much everything. He ended up vetoing more than every other governor combined. He also lowered taxes several times, and didn't raise them once. He left the state with a budget surplus.
Also he's climbed Mt. Everest. _________________

I like how you qualify that with "at least in the economic sphere." I suspect around here he'd be fairly popular, given that he's pro-immigration, pro-choice, pro-legalization of drugs, and against US military involvement in Afghanistan and Libya. All this on top of being fiscally responsible! He's exactly the kind of Republican I would support, and he has no chance of getting the nomination. _________________

Yes what I should have said is "Ron Paul is good, but Gary Johnson is better, especially in the economic sphere." I agree with all of his social views too, as I'm quite libertarian. But to me the economy should be the top priority, which is what Gary is all about. _________________

Ron Paul is someone to me who I respect, and a lot of his views are great. However, by trying to lead a pure libertarian agenda, a lot of his views are just stupid and unreasonable. He's certainly better than 95% of Republicans, but he'd never get the nomination, ever. Not that it matters, Barack has the 2012 election locked up. |

Fine, I'll say something. You need someone as President who will be able to agree with the majority of Congress on many issues, so that way we can efficiently run this country. Ron Paul's views are so different from almost every other politician that I doubt anything would get done if he were in office. _________________
