Alright, Guitar Hero is a great competitive game. But the problem is that multiplayer is not the best choice, in my opinion, for competition. Even though the notes are weighted differently, it still is not 100% even to both sides which makes it not good. I want to ask you what you all feel is a fair way to accurately compare the abilities of two players.

If I was going to do a tournament, I'd put two TVs beside each other. Then, hook up dual PS2s, and then let them duke it out in Single Player. It's -actually- the only way to see whose better going head-to-head. In multiplayer, Player 1 has a 100 point advantage, even if they both reach 100% on the songs.

So, yeah, two seperate televisions are a MUST for tournament play.

That's probably how it's going to go on my next tournament. Three words, labor day weekend......

You might want to provide headphones for one of them if possible in case they don't sync up quite right. Could get noisy...

If you can manage to sync two single player sesssions up perfectly..that would be very cool to watch.

Actually, last nite I tried it. Two 100" screens right next to each other synced up. It was actually really, really awesome!!!! And if the sound levels are equal, then there is not drag on the other player. But, for my tournament, they will actually be in different rooms that are adjacent.

Yeah, I would think that the loud clinks of misses from the other player might throw a person off.

that could be used as a strategy

i think its better just having one person go, then the next person plays the same song right after

simple AND effective

I think it'd probably be better for the competition though. More rest time for each player means better overall performances.

but then strategies could be stolen / modified based on how one player did before the other...

i think two seperate rooms is the best for comp, even though two screens next to each other would be awesome for display

I'm tempted to say just ban Star Power, but that's the elitist "don't want to lose to JCirri because the tie-breaker was I Love Rock & Roll" part of me talking.

That's called the Wait and Kill method. If you were going to fix it the way that we fixed it over the forums it'd probably be ok. In fact, that would actually work better.

(In case you didn't know, one person would play their song, give their score to a third-party, then the second person would play their song, give their score to the third-party, and the third-party would declare the winner.)

i say go with the two TV method. it works, and it's tried and tested. i remember thats how a Tag-team DDR tournament was held at my local arcade (and though me and my partner were the favorites, we ended up in 4th.)
