Ed Sheeran on the new game? Is this the new GH5 or Band Hero or something?
Probably just gonna have a load of shit on the game.

...I'll still buy it though.

I'd say they're throwing away *ANY* kind of sales for the sake of being different

RB4 is the only option for my PS4 right now, and it better support my PS3 instruments, because RB guitars usually sucks and I'm holding to my GH5 and 6 guitars

Any bets on the Weezer song being MNIJ?

I've been wanting 6 frets to be a thing for a while and this is the way they choose to do it? 3x2? What a joke. I don't mind change but this abomination doesn't deserve to be called Guitar Hero. They've taken everything that's intrinsic to a Guitar Hero game and fucking thrown it out the window. Even the iconic logo has been simplified into something bland and unremarkable.

For anyone saying "At least we're getting a new Guitar Hero", please raise your standards and realise we're not actually getting Guitar Hero, we're getting a pretender to the throne. I'd rather the series stay dead than see this stain on the franchise's good name released. I'd play, possibly even buy this as a rhythm game under its own name, but as a GH title? Fuck no.

my pennies:

will buy, will try to FC everything on expert.
no plans of ever touching the lower difficulties (what else is new...)

would have rather had 2 rows of 5 frets, but at least the new layout has enough novelty to hopefully be fun / initially challenging. SRFCing 75% of new games was getting old.

that being said, since star power got hosed and there isnt (yet?) a score display next to the highway, I don't see the same replay value that this community was formed on.
"Hero power" basically looks like the same deal they tried with quest mode in WOR, which to my knowledge didn't really gain any traction among regulars.

also I agree with the general "meh" consensus of the setlist so far

Could the beginning of this video be veteran? I'm pretty sure it is, because I tried to play along with it, and I felt as lost as I did when I first tried playing on expert. That's something I really like!

I do feel worried about the chartability of HOPO heavy/slide heavy soloing sections. Cult of Personality kinds of stuff, for example. Those were practically the most fun things to play, but the new guitar design seems to render them impossible.

Though I certainly don't agree that the new guitar layout appears easier. If they were in one lane, we can all agree that 6 buttons is strictly harder than 5. And I would think 1x6 vs 2x3 pretty much tie in terms of difficulty. Sliding from green to orange or reaching between them was seldom the hard part about GH (once you got to a certain point).

It all really comes down to charting. If we would take old GH charts and map the GRY to the bla frets and BO to the lower white frets, many things would become unplayably difficult. And vice versa is bound to be true as well. I feel convinced that the new layout allows for more difficult things than the classical layout, simply because there are more buttons. But I'm not convinced that the new kinds of difficult things are of the fun variety. Difficult can just as well equate to frustrating (remember purple notes? Strum limit?).

Another thing about game mechanics. I noticed on some video what it looked like when a player held down the same fret on both strings. It displayed as something like a square where the upper half was black and the lower half was white, or the other way around. Even though I haven't spotted any such note yet, I assume that at least veteran is going to have these notes (chords, technically) where you're supposed to hold your finger flat across the fret board (or it might be an opportunity to bring in the pinky as well). Combine that with notes on other frets at the same time, and we have a lot of possible chords. I think 57 of them, compared to what I guess would be 26 in classical GH. Fun or frustrating? Too early to judge.

I only care about gameplay, and my opinion is that I look forward to learning something new. I've been hoping for two "strings" for many years, but I didn't have 3 frets in mind. My worry isn't that this can't be difficult, but that charting really fun things might be hard. Fun charts > difficult charts!

EDIT: that footage right at the start also proves that there is a multiplier that works identically with the old one (did they fix the tick glitch yet? :P). The 29th note gives 150 and the 30th gives 200.

Well, supposedly all guitars, including GH guitars should work with RB4.

The official RB tiwtter linked this.

That said, I can't see these new GH guitars mapping well at all to clasic five lane play.

I know I always used GH guitars for RB. Hated the RB ones. Was kinda hoping with both returning, and depending on the quality of the RB guitar, I was probably just gonna end up getting a GH one, cause I expected them to be good as they've always have been.

31 in classic (32 if you count open notes), 64 in Live. (Binary!)

Seeing the expert gameplay does a lot to convince me. It's gonna be different, but I don't think it's bad different. I'm really excited to try it now.

If anybody from Freestyle happens to read this, please release more expert/veteran gameplay. That's the kind of thing that'll convince people like us of the game's validity, not footage of a difficulty we will literally never touch

((still think the setlist is lame, but it can't be judged just yet obviously))

I don't know how either of you arrived at those numbers. You can't include open notes in chords because its just one note. No frets held down. From what I can see you can only hold down one colour per fret so I think that slims down the number of chords significantly. By my count it was actually fewer possible combinations than the previous GH format. There's not going to be any reason to use your pinky here, any possible chord formation can be done with your first three fingers.

There was some good footage on SnapChat but that's gone now because snapchat

Aren't you the one that runs to be the first to put information out there? If you saw it, why not share some info about the footage you saw?

I guess if I force myself to look at this as a rhythm game that uses a guitar controller instead of a guitar rhythm game it can work. If they throw all pretense of charting songs in any way similar to how they're played this could be alright. I've been looking at this from the perspective of "well this game supports one power chord and three in drop d", but they're just going to throw random bullshit with no real rhyme or reason at you it seems. Still wish it was two lanes of five. It feels like a calculated alienation of the hardcore players to not even risk intimidating new ones. To a certain degree I don't want to buy it because I don't want anyone to think that tactic will work. Realistically I'll probably get RB4 day one, and grab this out of a bargain bin later.
