Ok...I really need some help from those who have broken 200k on Texas Flood Expert. I can consistently easily 5 star this song...usually averaging around 175-190k..but I just can't seem to break through to the higher scores. I noticed many people who broke 200k got combos of 200+. I just can't seem to put together these types of runs...my runs are inconsistent, and I always mess up and nail different parts every times. Much of my technique in this song relies on HO/PO, but I've also tried strumming everything too and I get about the same result. I even hit the first star power and all of that in the beginning without a miss every time.

Does anyone have any suggestions for putting together a run for this song to consistently break the 200k mark? Do some of you who have broken 200k strum everything...or do you recommend strumming some parts and doing HO/PO in other parts. Any tips for improving note streaks for this song and when NOT to use SP would be greatly appreciated. My percentages are usually really high, but it's keeping the combo that's my problem. I've really hit a wall with this song...

I can't do it either...

oh yeah, i use HO/POs in some spots too. i.e., the trill right before the lyrics

LOL great tip, pope... "don't miss notes". i actually always get the trill before the lyrics with HO/PO also. it's stuff after that that's the problem...like i really can't figure out what stuff to HO/PO and what stuff to strum anymore. like sometimes when i try all strumming some things work better but other things get worse, and vice versa for the other way around. ARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!! come on, ES, krim, somebody....a good tip, please!

make sure that you don't mess up during star power. that really wrecks your score. getting the end of the first solo isn't that important, but it's nice to have to few extra points. in my high score run, i did get the whole first solo, but i still made a dumb mistake cancelling it out. Always get the OSSOD (orange star streak of death), if you don't, that's quite a bit of points lost. Some streak-wreckers are extra strums. this song can hand you a lot of those, so always be sure to know whether you are going to end the combo on up or down. getting everything after the last set of vocals. i can't really tell you anything about technique, but hopefully this helps.

here's my sp strat if you haven't checked out the faqs thread.

During the GB and RO chords I've had as much as 140k(IIRC).
Coming out of the solo on the star power I've had about 174k.

It's something to shoot for. That's about what I got during my 200k run.

EDIT: I do use the SP path that ES mentioned. I also strum everything, mainly alt strum.

There is only one thing I know about this song....

don't ask me for advice.
I can't 5 star it on expert.
I can't consistantly 5 star it on hard.

I don't understand it. I had all my hard scores in the top 20 a week ago. Texas Flood was like...59th.

I have a serious mental block over this song.. and I don't know why.

I think my highest is 166k or something on expert. But I have gotten the orange part once, and it increased my score a lot, but... I shouldn't be trying to give advice to someone better than me. So, I'll make my way out of this thread.

Ok, ES, thanks...your SP strat is def. different than what I've ever done, so I'll give it a shot. Hitting the orange streak of death is what's difficult for me. Apparently someone mentioned that they're sextuplets? Is that really true? Other than that, is there any way to ensure getting them every time? I think I may be strumming too fast...

one thing is that you might be strumming too fast. but during fast note streaks like that, you don't have to pay attention to whether they are sextuplets or 32nd notes or any of that. just look at the bottom of the screen at the targets. if you can see a little bit of the note coming in front of the target, then you are going to slow, and you'll know that you have to speed up. if you can't see them at all, try strumming a little slower just to be sure. if you're concentrating on just getting that, then keep the orange button held down even after it's done, so you can get the star power. getting the next few notes won't really effect you, unless you get the whole part after.

Wouldn't it be better if you got every orange note in x8?

I'm getting a lot more consistent with comboing until the first break of crazy ass notes that Jhetfield freaked out when he got.

not if you want extra star power in the end.
