I did a search and I've seen all the posts about the problem but I haven't seen anyone discuss what it was, other than it was a new event, or something of this nature. So, I'm sorry if the has already been explained, and please delete this post if so.

Well, it's not a new event. Luckily I had the old versions of ghex to explore the new game. So I took a look at the Shakin' .mid with SONAR. The 'problem' exists at 0:00:00 in the TRIGGERS track. There is a comment that says: InstrumentName: USB Keystation 61es. Delete that comment, save the file, import it, and all is well with the latest version of GHEX. I know not many people have SONAR, but Anvil Studio can also delete these comments too.

EDIT 8-07-07: nickb611 has now went into to detail explaining this fix with Anvil Studio, along with malictus's ARK Expander, for anyone who doesn't have previous released versions of ghex. The page of his guide can be found here:

I also did a Google search for USB Keystation 61es which lead me to a little insight on their song making process. Also leads me to believe they left that comment in by mistake.

I've suspected this was a mistake and left in by accident.

I had an installation file for GHEx 0.2.0 laying around. Long story short, it brought back memories.... and reminded me of how far customizing has come.

Good job on this cigdawg.

Indeed, and in such a short time.

I take it this solution has already been discovered and mentioned?

Discovered? Sure.

Mentioned? I was reading LocalH's solution to this in the GHEx thread.

Explained? Not really, well, at least, not enough for the non-computer versed person.

I was actually slightly off on what I was saying, the exact text given by GHex is "Unhandled MIDI command: FF04", and that's also what kata himself told me. Sorry for using slightly wrong terminology.

thanks so much *_*

now, that's what i'm gonna do:
-copy the disc content on my hdd
-open it with ghex, latest version (as i don't have older ones)
-extract everything after the corruption warning message
-open the shakin.mid file and fix that comment
-repack the .ark with ark expander
-reopen it with ghex and start replacing songs

is that correct?

Sounds like it would work... only I believe when GHEx extracts everything it will extract everything that's 'good', and since shakin.mid is identified as 'bad', GHEx won't extract it.

My suggestion is to do this:

1. Expand the .ark with ARK Expander
2. Edit the shakin.mid with a midi sequencer and fix the message
3. Recompile the .ark with ARK Expander
4. Open the .ark with GHEx and start replacing songs

My method seems faster and easier, but theoretically both will work (if GHEx will let you extract the shakin.mid).

it won't ark expander works great instead, got my archive working thanks

EDIT: just a little fix. the commented track is TRIGGERS, not EVENTS. just delete the USB Keystation 61es in the Instrument field.

you have to do this process through SONAR, it seems. i deleted the comment with anvil but the .mid seemed to remain corrupted anyway. then i opened it with sonar and did NOTHING but save the file. only save the file. then the .mid worked perfectly in ghex.

Hmm... I just tried deleting this with Anvil, and imported it back with no errors.
You received the same message as before?

I repaired the midi previously but not whit this method. I've copied all the text after [end] from another midi and also worked.

Haha sweet. I'm glad I could help you.

I've also edited the .midi in Anvil and it worked... I'm not really sure what happened with yours eraserhead but it worked for me.

I couldn't get it to work with Anvil either, I get the same bad mid. file error message. But if I open the song back up in Anvil, the comment is gone. So, I'm assuming the error lies within my skills in using Ark expander and GHex.

i doubt it. i tried countless times with my version of anvil, and even though the comment is gone, the mid stays corrupt. it may depend on anvil's version perhaps. don't know. gamezelda's method seems the only software-independent one. did you edit the file with notepad or a hex editor?

ugh, this is driving me insane. I've edited the file countless times, and created the new Ark file dozens of times. yet, no luck...Curse you 80s edition.

Come on guys, none of you can think outside the box a little bit?

Hahaha I'm just playing with you. Anvil would delete the comment, but did one or both of the following two things:
1. Leave the event that caused the problem, essentially leaving the problem
2. Added a new event that resulted in the same problem.

You CAN'T just erase the comment with Anvil, you need to delete the event. To do that, I uploaded some pics and a nifty guide for everybody.
