For me it was:
(Ruby)
Rayquaza
Groudon
Latios
Regice
Salamence
Metagross
OK so the other 5 are questionable, but i think Regice (or an equally string ice pokémon - is there one?) is an essential member of any team. He can completely annihalate dragons, for me he killed Salamence in one hit with Ice Beam. |

Ugh, legendary team alert Just kidding!
My team was;
Kyogre (Ice Beam pwnage ) - Ice Beam, Calm Mind, Water Spout, Thunder (with Kyogre's automatic rain dance, thunder always hits for massive damage )
Metagross - Hyper Beam, Meteor Mash, Pursuit, Psychic
Salamence - Flamethrower, Dragon Claw, Crunch, Double Edge
Alakazam - Psychic, Confusion, Psybeam, Recover (Awful moveset, it needs an overhaul)
Swampert - Earthquake, Surf, Toxic, Ice Beam (Swampert is immune to electric, which is the most common counter attempt, and earthquake does X2 damage to electrics. Ice beam is to deal with the very dangerous grass types (swampert has a X4 weakness to grass), and dragons that Salamence can't deal with (such as Rayquaza).
The last space really depends on who I'm fighting, but it's typically Golem or Camerupt.
If you take into account all the games though, my ultimate team is;
Kyogre
Tyranitar
Salamence
Espeon
Butterfree (yes, you heard me right )
and either Typhlosion or Venasaur.
Me and my pals have an unwritten rule, only 1 legendary per team. It keeps the competition interesting. I have many many more pokemon I love using, but this is my current team. _________________

Feel free to criticise my team all you want, admitadly half of them are only up there because they're legendary and look cool, but i have to say - Aggron and Swellow? Swellow's stats are weak and Aggron is very vulnerable as far as i can remember. I heard Pearl / Diamond has 179 Pokémon with few new ones - pity. I mean the quantity seems right but i'm not too fond of raising Pokémon i've raised a thousand times before in previous games. Wi - fi and linking with the Wii should make it awesome though. |

Actually, before i caught Latios i was very fond of Wobuffet. Nobody every expected to come up against him and sometimes he could win a battle all on his own - one of my favourite pokémon! |

Any team that doesn't have a Salamence on it is automatically ineligible for "best team." :P _________________

I thought Flygon was an absolute waste of time to be honest... But you probably gave him some killer moves.
Btw i was totally wrong about Pearl/Diamond - there's 109 new Pokémon and they look pretty cool! So lots of new stuff to get to grips with whenever it comes out. |

Ick, sure are a lot of Legendaries about.
Anyway, my favourite competitive team is something like (haven't battled for a while)
Skarmory
Starmie
Gardevoir
Tyranitar
Umbreon
Ludicolo
Also been known to use Scizor 'Zam, Metagross, Wob (if the opponents cool with it, bit taboo is old Wob) Gengar and loads of others....and i can pretty safely say i'll beat anyone in this topic so far. >_>
I might get back on netbattle actually, it's been a while :P |

Or just a Starmie.
Ice Beam/Psychic/Thunderbolt/Surf Starmie FTW
I know some people like to use Recover, but ingame, i don't see the point. |
