At this point, I'm thoroughly convinced 3's & 7's (expert) is impossible. I start the song, get barraged by three note chords, and proceed to turn off the console and call it a night.

What are some good strategies for this song, or should I just break it down piece by piece in practice mode?

Helps a lot to just downstrum and concentrate on the 3 note chords. Don't worry about the single notes just hit as many as you can and keep the rythm.

Tier7 is where I to make due like a hostage situation.
You gotta give to get.
Look and see which ones you feel you can hit best.
or see which batch of notes repeat more than others and for them and let the others escape.
I found it funny playing a pro face off on line, raining blood i win, one he barely wins. tier breaker he pics this. smart move. whooped me by 100k i think

Yeah, I'd also recommend watching a video (or listen to an audio) of the song for the sole purpose of knowing how the song sounds. Make sure if watch the video though, that your concentration is on the sound of the song and not the frets in the game. I would've been really confused too if I hadn't known the song ahead of time.

One big hint: the second SP phrase--the palm mutes before the first chords are 24ths instead of 16ths like the other palm mutes.

Classic QOTSA off time guitar run. I would have to agree with SalBasss, just listen to the song a few times. Learn what the guitar is doing and keep in time with the old foot tap or a metronome even. It's the other band members that really tend to throw your timing off in this song. Josh Homme is an awesome bastard.

I just got it. Played it four times through in practice, then actually did the song. I got a pretty good score for a first complete (even though it's still 3 stars ).

That rhythm is a bitch. I agree.
It took me 10 tries and 30 minutes in practice to 5* that song.

One thing i found easy about that song is use yoru index finger to hit single notes and revolve the 3-note chords around your other fingers, including hte pinky. That was easiest for me.

Just my personal opinion.

Look at the video/song on youtube, particularly one where you can hear the strumming. Helps a lot on rhythm; just imiatate what you hear and it'll be okay. That's what I did but that's just me; just listen to it online and then you'll be good. Practice too.
