I've promised to implement this feature a while back and finally it's complete.

This allows you to select another user and difficulty to compare all of your scores. I attempted to include as much information as possible while still keeping things simple and easy to understand.

Summary information is shown at the top for the entire difficulty. This is followed by a table showing the comparison of each song and grouping of songs (i.e. Opening Licks, etc..).

This was a huge amount of work, let me know what you think.

Note: This page makes use of extensive queries to the database so don't be surprised if it takes a bit longer to load.

Thank you! Now all sorts of petty rivalries will be easier to track!

Seriously, this is a much-anticipated-by-me feature and I'm glad you took the time to implement it.

I just saw this feature...fantastic...really gives you a good way to see where you can make up points to rise up a rank..or two. Mr. Green

Now a suggestion, can you also implement a similar feature that compares your scores to the overall high score, instead of just a particular user? I think something like this was asked in a thread below.

Very nice JC!

In fact, I think this is even better than the suggestion I made about including the spread from the highest score for each song. Instead, I can just compare all of my scores to the next ranked player, or the top ranked player, or anything in between!

Would it be feasible to exclude members who haven't entered any scores? More than once I've randomly selected someone to compare my scores against, to no avail.

Another idea is the capability to compare the scores of two members besides yourself. That way other people can assess your rivalries.

i think that now that there is a rivals board, there should be a direct link on there where people who have been offficially been declared rivals can do the compare users thing with such rival.

Here's another suggestion that wouldn't take long at all to implement: When you're browsing someone's scores, there should be a link that takes you to the compare score page for that person.

On the other hand, it wouldn't save much time either.

Another huge and brilliant innovation by our man JC! Your stuff just keeps getting better and better...keep up the great work 'cause we all really appreciate it! BTW...did ya ever think it would get this big?!? P.S.S.- Can you tell me what's wrong with my sig? I'm computer illiterate and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, and I'm getting sick of looking like an idgit. Thanks again.

Code:
<img src="http://www.scorehero.com/userstats.php?id=45" border="0" />

Use that instead...unfortunately you cannot use the '&style=Z' function unless the [HTML] bbcode MOD has been installed (which it hasn't). It has something to do with phpbb not allowing the ampersand ( & ) in code...weird...

Anyways! Looks awesome! Does load a tad slow...come on JC...I've seen your disgusting mysql commands @_@...make it faster

I'm glad everyone seems to enjoy this new feature.

Now to respond to all your ideas:

Yes, I've currently got an entire branch of code commented out for exactly this idea. Since it will take some time to finish and everything else worked, I didn't want to delay releasing the page just because of that. In the near future you'll notice a new option where you can select "Top Scores" instead of a user.

I can see your point, but I think removing users with no scores wouldn't make much sense. Which difficulty would I consider in deciding which users to display?

Choice #1: I considered all difficulties, and just removed users that haven't entered any scores. Then you could still select a particular difficulty for a selected user in which he wouldn't have any scores.

Choice #2: I handle the list of users per difficulty (only showing users that have entered a score on the selected difficulty). Then the list of users would change depending what difficulty you choose.

Either way seems like it would cause confusion.

I thought about this, thinking that it might be useful to allow anonymous access to the page to be able to choose two users to compare. But I felt it would complicate the interface and make it harder to use. In terms of coding it wouldn't be hard at all for me to allow you to change the 2nd user to something other than yourself, but I couldn't think of a neat way to incorporate it. If you have an idea let me know.

The part that needs to be taken care of first is "ofiicially declaring rivals". The Rivalries forum right now is simply for discussing rivalries amongst each other, giving challenges, etc. It isn't dynamic right now, so if someone posts a message "<insert username> is my rival", the system won't be able to respond to it in order to create a direct link as you mention.

If I implement some way for users to officially declare rivals, then something like this could be accomplished. But right now it's not the case.

I plan on making a little icon or something that will appear next to any username shown on the site (recent scores, browse scores, rankings, top scores, etc..) that will link you to compare scores with that user.

Thanks Phr34k for saving me time on this one.

You're right; I've had a few ideas and they were either confusing or unnecessarily complicated. I guess rivals can post updates in the Rivalry board.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to all these ideas (even the stupid ones) and not taking them as criticism. I can tell this site means a lot to you.

On the compare users screen, why not just have two dropdowns, and have the first one default in yourself? That way, it makes sense visually. This is also a feature I'd like to see.
