Take This Life - Why can I not do this?

I try this song every few days, only have it and ttfaf left to beat. For the life of me I can't strum any of the alternating y/b r/y etc. This is more of a venting thread but if someone has any tips feel free to post them.

I've checked other threads and tried: just down strumming, alt strumming, anchoring the lowest fret, not anchoring the lowest fret, and pretty much all combinations of those.

ive played it a few times, and couldnt get the hang of it, went into practice and starting getting it, dont down strum b/c ur arm will get tired FAST(at least for me), so alt strum it, sorry idk what else to say like the beat or w.e but ya its a really hard song

Best tips I can possibly give you:

Listen to the drums, the "trills" go in time with them perfectly.

Start on an upstrum, so that the higher frets are being downstrummed, it helps a lot more than you would think.

If you haven't already, take it into practice and do it over and over again.

Starting on an upstrum helped a lot, got it second try, not a good score but at least I beat it.
