I decided since I am taking a break from creating my own custom songs, that I would lend a hand to anyone else who may be having problems getting their mids to work with GH.

If you are having problems with creating a midi, and would like some help feel free to ask. I just ask the following of you

1. Please post the midi so I can see it with my own eyes. It is next to impossible to troubleshoot without it.

2. I will not correct the midi for you. I will just tell you of my findings. That way the creator learns from the mistake (and the rest of the community as well).

3. I don't know the ins and outs of music theory, so if you ask questions that require college credit, you will get a blank stare...

4. If you are creating a midi, and would like to keep it a secret (until release), feel free to PM it.

That's about it! Ask away!

To answer the first question, yes you can. There is a thread in this forum for that purpose.

There is also a thread on how to make a vgs from an Mp3 in this forum too.

Those questions are not suitable for this thread, since this is only for midi creation help. I don't want to turn it into a free for all Q and A. We have other threads for those.

Thanks alot Meteo, this will be a huge help to everyone! It seems like a really tough task creating your own songs, but as long as you read the directions and guides carefully, it's not tough at all.

You don't convert a song to a MIDI. You have to create a note chart in MIDI form that will sound nothing like the song at all. MIDI form is just how it is injected into the game.

Well, I know you usually don't bother with events, but I wonder if you could help me find the problem with any of my midis? I already reviewed them many times, everything seems to be right, but in GH2 it doesn't recognize any lighting command... Although when I try a downloaded midi with events, they work perfectly

Was wondering if you could take a look at this one for me.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5Q1Q0ZVS

It's for Guns N Roses: Welcome to the Jungle.

Trying to convert to Guitar Hero 2 status.

I can get the MId to load perfectly in GHEx, as well as the vgs.

I can hear the music play fine in the preview section of GH2, but the game freeze's and I can't play.

any idea's?

new problem.
I just tried it again, and this time it actually loaded. But the song ended without showing any frets on the board and gave a percentage.

I'm guessing my time with the [end] is off.

I'm not sure about why the lighting events are not working. The only difference between your midi and an official one is that yours has 2 KeyAft events at the beginning. What I have noticed is that it may have something to do with the TRIGGERS track. I checked the time of lighting effects on an official midi and found notes on the TRIGGERS track for each lighting event. My theory is that the pitch may effect the color of the light.

The problem with the mid is that you have nothing in your EVENTS track. That is where the [end] event goes. This will 100% cause the song to end before it begins.

do'h!

so adding [end] * in the events comment section and 59359 as time for the [end] should fix it.

Thanks for the help!

****edit*****

should I get rid of the [end] and [play] comments in the part guitar segment? or just leave it and add the end in the events
