<rant>
Why oh why oh WHY does this song increase in tempo?
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I've played this and BatM over and over the past few days restarting and practicing the opening bars over and over. I believe that both songs (and several others like Crossroads, Smoke on the Water) increase in tempo over the length of the song!
Kudos to the Harmonix team for synching this sliding tempo and the scroll of the notes. I know from experience stepping DDR charts in Stepmania (long ago, I stepped Machinae Supremacy's cover of "The Great Giana Sisters" to great success) that tempo changes are a can of worms that, once opened, require even more care when synching notes to the song.
I guess you could make an argument in favor of increased difficulty and the ramping of the difficulty, but these songs and their riffs are difficult enough without throwing in the increased tempo.
I WILL get 5stars on both these songs, its just that learning to react to the tempo changes is taking more getting used to than simply hitting the correct notes.

Anyone else have any corroborating observations? _________________

THe BREaking Wheel? it slows down very slightly in the beginning, then slows down for.....well, the slow part, then ramps up again. |

I think The Breaking Wheel has about 10 subtle tempo changes (not counting the slow middle part). I have a hard time believing those were intentional...yet we have to mimic them exactly, which is pretty obnoxious. Oh well, I like playing the song anyway. |

as far as breaking wheel, yeh the few notes before the long held note are the only REAL tempo change. As far as the other parts where it goes from the 3/4 part to the 4/4 part, its really not a tempo change acually. If you tap your foot with every 3 notes at the beginning, you will notice at the change it doesnt speed up, but you are playing 4 notes between every tap instead of 3. The notes are a bit faster only because they are spaced 1/8 apart instead of 1/6. |

there is one tempo change in the breaking wheel from the 6/4 part to the 4/4 part in the triplets. after the middle part that is different from everything else, the triplets going up after that have a tempo change. on the second time up the yellow notes are a little faster. _________________

i think so, because i always played it the same speed when i was going for the full combo, but i always messed up at that part, even on hard mode. and i dont think my fingers were doing anything wrong. there is also a little change after the first big pause. the first
RRRRRRRRORRBRRYR
is slower than the next two. _________________

Well, I've been wondering if these Breaking Wheel speed changes were all in my head, i.e. an illusion caused by the backing music, but If you use the VgsPlayer and turn off the music and just use the clicker, you can hear all the parts in the song where the speed changes (when it doesn't seem like it should). You can even see the changes on the VgsPlayer if you compare the spacing between repeated notes.
Examples:
Slows down on bar 7, then speeds back up on bar 11.
Speeds up on bar 83, then gets slower by bar 87.
Repeated chords on bar 119 are slower than same pattern on bar 129.
Slows down on bar 152, then speeds back up on 154.
I think there's more, but they're less obvious and so less problematic. |

The topic creator is right. The change in tempo in CFH just ruined my last run, giving me a score that was lower than I wanted. |

I'll end this confusion.
Cowboys from Hell: 82 Tempo changes.
The Breaking Wheel: 115 Tempo changes.
So yes, there are many very subtle changes. _________________

Holy ****!
Good thing I'm such a band geek. I have plenty of experience in following subtle tempo changes from my band director. |

dammit, i've recently started guitar, and i haven't encounter any severe or constant tempo chages. I'm going to have to punch the guy who invented that song. Oh yeah, and if anyone encounters Andrew Buch, tell him i'm going to kill him |
