We finally have the deatils of the new scoring system worked out. Any score submission will be worth at least 1 point, with point value scaling up depending on how high you place. The league size will be based on submitted scores for the 1st week.

For Leagues with 10 - 24 people: Scores will increase by 1 point up through 6th place. 5th through 2nd place will increase by 2 points and 1st place will be an increase of 3 points. For example:

1st: 16
2nd: 13
3rd: 11
4th: 9
5th: 7
6th: 5
7th: 4
8th: 3
9th: 2
10th: 1

For Leagues with 25 to 40 people: Scores will increase by 1 point up through 11th place. Increase by 2 points up through 6th place. 5th through 2nd place will increase by 3 points and 1st place will be an increase of 5 points. For example:

1st: 32
2nd: 27
3rd: 24
4th: 21
5th: 18
6th: 15
7th: 13
8th: 11
9th: 9
10th: 7
11th: 5
12th: 4
13th: 3
14th: 2
15th: 1

For Leagues with more than 40 people: Scores will increase by 1 point up through 16th place. Increase by 2 points up through 7th place. 6th through 2nd place will increase by 3 points and 1st place will be an increase of 5 points. For example:

1st 43
2nd 38
3rd 35
4th 32
5th 29
6th 26
7th 23
8th 21
9th 19
10th 17
11th 15
12th 13
13th 11
14th 9
15th 7
16th 5
17th 4
18th 3
19th 2
20th 1

Keep in mind that any submitted score will be worth at least 1 point..and the points will scale per song from there. The only way you can get no points is to NOT submit a score/% for a song. Even if you fail a song, and submit a % failed, you will get at least 1 point.

The only major change here (from the faq) is the point distribution changes based on the size of the league. I will be updating the FAQ shortly.

EDIT: Question answered, first post reworded... Life is good

Original Question:
Is the cutoff set where all scores lower than that are 1 pt? Or does it build up from the lowest score like previously discussed? The wording and the examples seem to be pointing in different directions.

For example:

Would that mean 41st = 1 pt, 40th = 2 pts, etc., or just everything under 20th =1 pt?

Also, for the point scaling, is the rank listed inclusive or exclusive? EX.: You have the change at 15th as inclusive(16th-15th = 2 pts.), but the one at 7th is exclusive (8th-7th is 2 pts., not 3).

I noticed that the wording is a little confusing, so I'll go back and edit it. The examples show the correct scale, I just didn't want to type out for 45 people. Last place is worth one point, 2nd to last is worth 2 points and so on. No different places will be worth the same amount of points.

its inclusive. the error he has in that example is just in description. The first +2 poitns score is 15th, and the first +3 is 6th (for the 41+ case).

Wow... if we get 4 more people in AA (total of 41), a first place score will be 64 pts... man, this competition's gonna be fierce...

um.... wow... that's insane.

If leagues are growing that big, that quickly, it might be time to break the individual leagues into divisions (think pro sports: NL north, AL east, etc.) I'm not sure what a fair dividing factor would be (location, maybe?) but it would probably be a little more effective both in terms of giving everyone a better chance at making the playoffs, and of organizing the playoffs themselves.

Indeed..if hte leagues stay this popular..and all the people who signed up actually stick with it and submit scores, we will certainly be creating more divisions to match peoples skills more closely.

For the first season, we had a pretty high drop out rate..so we have decided to leave season 1 as is.

Scoring system looks great. This should encourage more people to stay through the entire season.

So if I attempted the twist song (which is frigging hard in C) 15 times, and submitted each attempt, I'd get 15 points?

No. Since we only take the highest score submitted, you are guaranteed 4 points each week if you submit a score for each of the 4 songs. Multiple submissions just replace the old score with the newer high score you submitted.

That said, especially with league sizes where they are right now, and a 50 PM limit, PLEASE only submit 1 PM with your scores for the week. If everybody submits several scores throughout the week, not only does it get confusing as to which ones are the ones to count, but the danger of maxing out one of our PM boxes is very high. Plus, it just saves us a lot of wasted time entering scores that would eventually get replaced by higher ones.
