I read this earlier. My guess is that a lot of people don't realize the dangers of water intoxication. Diluted blood FTL.

The radio station will do the right thing and settle the wrongful death lawsuit for several million dollars, not that that will give the kids their mom back... Yes, the woman was an idiot, but it's pretty much a proven fact that far too many people will do moronic things when goaded into it by moronic radio show hosts. The producer on that show who came up with this idea deserves to face criminal negligent homicide charges, as far as I'm concerned. That only one person died or suffered serious injury is a miracle. Saying to the contestants "don't do this if you don't think you're able" just doesn't cut it. They intentionally goaded people into performing an activity which is inherently life threatening... and someone thought that would be "fun". Fucked up.

It amazes me that more people aren't aware of the dangers of water intoxication. I've heard countless stories of fraternities using water drinking for hazing, only to have it end up in a dead college student. I'm in whole agreement with Riz here; the fact that the radio station either wasn't aware of the danger here (which apprently wasn't the case) or that they assumed people would know their own limits...is extraordinarily immoral. You can't tell people to do something which may kill them, give them an award for doing so, and honestly expect that they won't go to the limit. Idiocy.

I can only imagine what that family is going through right now. It's a shame.

You realize that too much of *any* liquid can kill you, right? Even spring water. What happens is your blood cells try to absorb too much water and begin to explode.
