Question: What's your position on Hyperspeed? Personally, I think it should be something like "allowed with consent of both players". Not because I consider it cheating or anything (Though I personally don't use it), but simply because, to my knowledge, it's either on for both or off for both, and in short, because of the lack of individual player hyperspeed selection, someone's probably getting screwed no matter how it ends up being ruled, and I think this screws the lowest percentage of people.

Note that if, in future GHs, the developers wise up and make it an individual player option, I'll gladly alter my position to "freely allow".

Of all things to not mention so far! My position has and will always be: "if both players consent to its use, it's allowed. Otherwise, it will be off by default." Why? The game comes out of the box with hyperspeed off. If a player chooses to play without it, he overrules the other guy because that is the "stock" mode of playing. Forcing a player to use a "mod" is not allowed and shouldn't be. They choose to play the game as it is, therefore the match will be as the game is normally. On the other hand, a high majority of the top players use the speed mod anyway, so it usually ends up being the minority who plays without the speed mod in Expert. The majority of my hard players usually play without it though.

Sephi...Would it have killed you to say (as quoted from BriGuy on the official GH forum)??
See my post here with picture links to explain all the mods btw!!
http://forum.guitarherogame.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=13252

I agree with your decisions and think it's great that it has been posted over here too, but I guess I was looking for some credit is all.

This came to my attention because I just went to the terra-bite tournament in NJ, and the guys running it had a print out from your post and it looked just like my list that I made.

As for some other concerns of mine, some other gaming conditions have to be agreed upon as well. Such as making sure everyone agrees on a lag calibration and volume levels when there are multiple games going on at once.
I am actually working on a way to automaticaly calibrate the lag. Details coming soon....hopefully.

I don't mean to be an ass BriGuy but you really should have sent Sephi a PM instead of flaming in his topic.

How can you say I was "flaming in his topic"? I did say it was great that it has been posted over here too.
But my post (which I spent a lot of time writing and coding for) was cut and pasted into another forum without any mention of the original author. I found out when it was printed out and shown to me at a tournament. As you can imagine, I was surprised to see this and how it was attributed to another person. So perhaps I responded with a lesser breach of proper forum etiquette by not PMing him first, but I wanted to put my stamp on it, as well as add a few other things to this discussion (which I began).
So, quackadilly, by jumping in and pointing this out, yes you are an ass and deserve a proper flaming...BriGuy style.
Roast Duck anyone?

yes, my guitar really does shoot fire. see the details here

ps-I'm not trying to start a flaming war here. In fact, if we all put our heads together here we could come up with a universal set of rules for GHOUL and other tournaments that anybody can understand and reference. I think it would be great if the post was edited to include the picture links and anything else we can agree makes sense.

How about allowing headphones for noisy tournaments? Is this possible to do so the 2 players and the crowd can all hear?
Full size guitars with SG guts?

Aww...you did not just bring out the flaming guitar.....

Roasted duck is actually quite good. More juicy than chicken by far.

I can see that he got a lot of the info from your post, but for the purpose of getting the info and thoughts conveyed to others I believe it was mainly for formatting and to make sure he hit all the main topics.

Either way, I'm a big fan of seeing credit given where it is due....F@CKING TAC.....Double Range.....@ss Holes.....

I would certainly not rule out the possibility of me organizing a contest in Columbus in the near future, and would like to have some ideas about how you do it - of the contests I've been to, I think the format I enjoyed was each round being the best of three, each player picks a song, and a tiebreaker song is selected by the judge.

Why don't we get someone to write up some rules put in a petition and All of us who are going to the tourney at the movie theater sign it.. and maybe they'll let us run it that way... since we'll most likely be the majority?

Any thought of Cash entry? % paid out to top 3 or so?

1. First of all, you asked on the other forum for an official ruling on the following circumstances. If you recall correctly, I posted a response to that a few posts later with my OWN rulings on those circumstances. If you didn't notice, I copied my own post over and used that as a base. Now, if you want credit for bringing up those circumstances, I can say "BriGuy first asked what the official rulings for those were and gave his opinion on them." But, I did change some and made it to the rules that I was ALREADY using for tournaments. I used it here to save the time of retyping it.

2. The point of this thread is for a universal set of rules for Guitar Hero tournaments. You can choose to modify this rule set as you please, as it is my own personal set of rules for my tournaments. I have actually run MANY Guitar Hero tournaments, so these aren't speculation or theory, they are practiced rules.

3. For the tournaments I have run, I have balanced the sound between two 100" projectors with surround sound so as to make it that one screen cannot hear the other. It is very much possible, it just takes a good ear and patience. I do not allow headphones because the set-up at the gaming center that my tournaments are held does not have this as an audio option.

4. Full size guitars with SG guts? - NOT ALLOWED. They are not the way the game was INTENDED TO BE PLAYED. Therefore, they are not allowable in my tournament settings.

And as far as individual tournament discussions, they go in another thread for the tournament. This thread does not answer prizing questions for specific tournaments.

Here is another low tech way to pick a random song. Get two 8-sided dice of different colors and roll them both. Chose one die as the first number and the other color for the second.
(8 x 8 = 64) You can find 8-sided dice at a comic book or gaming store. They are mainly used for dungeons and dragons and look like this:

Here is the key. This forum doesn't allow me to format this any better. You might want to copy/paste it into a word or excel file to make it neater. Enjoy!

1-1 Shout at the Devil
1-2 Mother
1-3 Surrender
1-4 Woman
1-5 Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight
1-6 Strutter
1-7 Heart-Shaped Box
1-8 Message in a Bottle

2-1 You Really Got Me
2-2 Carry On Wayward Son
2-3 Monkey Wrench
2-4 Them Bones
2-5 Search and Destroy
2-6 Tattooed Love Boys
2-7 War Pigs
2-8 Cherry Pie

3-1 Who Was in My Room Last Night?
3-2 Girlfriend
3-3 Can't You Hear Me Knocking
3-4 Sweet Child O' Mine
3-5 Killing in the Name
3-6 John the Fisherman
3-7 Freya
3-8 Bad Reputation

4-1 Last Child
4-2 Crazy on You
4-3 Trippin' On a Hole in a Paper Heart
4-4 Rock This Town
4-5 Jessica
4-6 Stop
4-7 Madhouse
4-8 Carry Me Home

5-1 Laid to Rest
5-2 Psychobilly Freakout
5-3 YYZ
5-4 Beast and the Harlot
5-5 Institutionalized
5-6 Misirlou
5-7 Hangar 18
5-8 Free Bird

6-1 Arterial Black
6-2 Collide
6-3 Elephant Bones
6-4 Fall of Pangea
6-5 FTK
6-6 Gemini
6-7 Jordan
6-8 Laughtrack

7-1 Less Talk More Rokk
7-2 The Light that Blinds
7-3 Mr. Fix-it
7-4 The New Black
7-5 One for the Road
7-6 Parasite
7-7 Push Push (Lady Lightning)
7-8 Radium Eyes

8-1 Raw Dog
8-2 Red Lottery
8-3 Six
8-4 Soy Bomb
8-5 Thunderhorse
8-6 Trogdor
8-7 The X-Stream
8-8 Yes We Can

The same kind of thing can be done for GH1. Just use one 8 sided die, and one standard 6 sided die. (8x6=48)
Here is the key:

1-1 I Love Rock & Roll
1-2 I Wanna Be Sedated
1-3 Thunder Kiss 65
1-4 Smoke On The Water
1-5 Infected
1-6 Iron Man

2-1 More Than A Feeling
2-2 You Got Another Thing Comin'
2-3 Take Me Out
2-4 Sharp Dressed Man
2-5 Killer Queen
2-6 Hey You

3-1 Stellar
3-2 Heart Full of Black
3-3 Symphony Of Destruction
3-4 Ziggy Stardust
3-5 Fat Lip
3-6 Cochise

4-1 Take It Off
4-2 Unsung
4-3 Spanish Castle Magic
4-4 Higher Ground
4-5 No One Knows
4-6 Ace Of Spades

5-1 Crossroads
5-2 Godzilla
5-3 Texas Flood
5-4 Frankenstein
5-5 Cowboys From Hell
5-6 Bark at the Moon

6-1 Fire It Up
6-2 Cheat on the Church
6-3 Caveman Rejoice

6-6 Behind The Mask

7-1 The Breaking Wheel
7-2 Callout
7-3 Decontrol
7-4 Even Rats
7-5 Farewell Myth

8-4 Sail Your Ship By
8-5 Story of My Love
8-6 <roll again>
