Any REALLY Good Online Games Out There?

So I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me/link me to some REALLY good online computer games. I'm not talking about really good SHORT online computer games either, I wanna be playing this one for awhile if I like it. I'm looking for a game like Runescape in terms of LENGTH and THINGS TO DO, not in gameplay. I am an ex-runescape player and there is literally an infinite amount of things to do but its just...boring now.

Criteria for what I'm looking for:

Long, many things to do.
It doesn't HAVE to be MMORPG, but that might help.
I enjoy leveling up my character, and having many different stats that do different things. I don't mind having to sit and train for an hour if I must to level up.
Free. Or at least a large "demo" version of the game.

If I think of anything else I'll add it to the list. Thanks in advance!

You start out as a civilian, start doing petty crimes, slowly make your way up to a "gangster", start doing more felonies to get more money join a family, start trafficking drugs, eventually make your way up to a Don, takes a really long time. And you can get killed and have to start over.'
