Could someone explain to me what vgsplayer, guitar hero trainer, and things like that are? Because I really have no idea..and I've seen a lot of discussion about them...and also I use a Mac so that may be why I can't use them. Do they really help you get better at the game? Cause I've gotten to #4 without anything like that, and that'd be really annoying if programs like those were responsible for making people like ES and krumsunmunkeys #1 and #2 respectively. I really hope they both got to those positions on raw talent and practice...

Basically, the VGS Player/Guitar Hero Trainer (one and the same) is just a way to analyze note patterns in a "Practice Mode". You download the program, insert your GH disc, and you can watch the notes of a song, with note clicks and slowdown to help you analyze the strumming patterns. Also, you can skip to the hard parts, and loop them to practice. Even though there is no controller input, it is helpful for practicing a song's solo without having to play the usual fluff before the solos. It isn't really cheating or anything, if that's what you're thinking, because you still need the skill to pull off the notes. The VGS Player/Guitar Hero Trainer just helps in the learning process.

Download it here.

Yeah understanding the patterns (being able to see them) and rhythms of the really fast solos is really the only thing standing in the way of me breaking through to incredibly high scores...if I could slow practice stuff like I practice violin then almost everything wouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately I have a Mac and that player requires Windows so I can't use any of these programs...thanks for the link anyway krimsun Oh well...maybe I'll try using the note charts by JCirri. I'm pretty sure how songs like Thunder Kiss 65 can be 100%ed...if I could truly understand the strumming rhythm of the solo then I would just strum the whole thing...

i usually use the vgs player to play songs at 130%
trippolette is crazy at that speed ( as if it wasnt already crazy)
BATM is probably my favorite 130% song to listen to

for tough solos I start at around 50%

I up it about 10% once I have a good hold of it at the current speed.
