Does anyone know why the title of the song has a star in it? It isn't a big deal by any means, but I'm still curious.

I think whoever wrote the code decided what it would show up as and also what the text is during the loading screen.

I suspect the star was included simply to make the title stand out, I could be wrong however.

Just for the hell of it.

Like on Graveyard Shift, I wrote something special for the loading screen.

Is there a way to remove the star from "Trippolette"?

If not, is there a way to add a star to the beginning of "Graveyard Shift"?

I would like for the two titles to match if possible!

Im sure you can

Quack could also make it so theres a star too, but then hell have to change the song for the number of letters.

Speaking of which, that could be why the stars there?

I don't think so. If you count the letters in *Trippolette and the letters in Guitar Hero, "Trippolette"="Guitar Hero", and the star doesn't seem to count as a character.

Or, I could be completely stupid and be talking a bunch of nonsense.

now that you mention it, Trippolette and Guitar Hero don't even have the same amount of characters. Trippolette has 11 and Guitar Hero has 10. And in Graveyard Shift and Sail Your Ship By, spaces didn't count as characters either

OK to explain how it works. The filename for *Trippolette on the GH disc is AdvHarmony which has the same number of characters as the filename GuitarHero (10 letters), which was necessary for overwriting the filepath in memory from ../GuitarHero/<data> to ../AdvHarmony/<data>. There's a fixed number of memory locations representing each filepath in the PS2's RAM, so you can't add or remove values, you can only overwrite values (change the letters) and therefore it must have the same length.

As for the name that is displayed in the song selection, the loading message, and other information about the song I believe there is a certain amount of memory allocated for these things and you don't need to use it all, so there's not the same restriction requiring the exact same length for the displayed songname in the selection screen, as it is for the filepath. quickadilly could probably give more information, but this is my understanding.

ok, heres the in depth explanation:

The name of the song was actually ADVHARMONY (10), stands for Advanced Harmonics, it was a project for Andrew Buch's Advanced Harmonics class. The creator of the code, Andrew Buch? wanted to make the name Trippolette official, so he put that in the title screen that you see.
ADVHARMONY has the same number of letters as the song GUITARHERO (10). If you didn't notice, the filenames don't include spaces at all.
The loading screen and the other extra stuff for the unlock songs in the unlock shop have a fixed amount of space to put descriptions in. You don't have to use it all, if you want to use less you have to put what is called a NULL character at the end of what you want to display. It should work the same way for the filename and all, but I didn't want to experiment, it takes a while to do that.
If I remember correctly, there is a little extra space where the name of the song is located.(I'll double check soon, my main computer broke and I'm building a new one)

So, the * in the name *Trippolette.....

It does not have to be there, its completely up to who writes the code.

P.S.

When I tried to modify the title myself, it appeared as " Trippolette" (with the space at the beginning) after I changed the star character in the code ("2A") to "20." I know that character is used for a space, but it is also the NULL character? At first I thought it was "00," but changing it to that made the title disappear!

Even though I started this topic, I was able to answer my own question. I changed the last three lines of the code and was able to take the star out of the title. I didn't even know if it would actually work, but it works perfectly!

Here is the original part of the code:

205459D0 6972542A
205459D4 6C6F7070
205459D8 65747465

I changed it to this:

205459D0 70697254
205459D4 656C6F70
205459D8 00657474
