I get an "Invalid Path" error.

I'm on Vista 64. The game is installed at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Aspyr\Guitar Hero Aerosmith". Setting the game install location to this, or to a few other permutations thereof, still fails.

When you say "C:\Program Files (x86)\Aspyr\Guitar Hero Aerosmith" with "Program Files (x86)" is that how it looks? Also you can try going into to the program directory and go to the following folder, "App Data\Config\Settings\" and delete "GHAInstallPath.txt" if its there. When you startup the program again it will search the registry for the path of GH:A, So what evers in the registry will obviously be the right path unless you changed or renamed the folder! The program works like this:

If not txtPath.text = regkey then
BLAH BLAH...Throw an error

so if the GH:A directory doesn't = the path in the registry it will through an error. so something has to be wrong on your side. Ill look into what the problem is if it's even in the program.

Also, I've never seen a "Program Files (x86)" folder before. And did this problem ever happen before?

I start the app. Here's a nifty off-topic trick: pressing Ctrl-C (copy) in a dialog box will copy the text... So I get:

---------------------------
GH:A BOOST
---------------------------
The program will now find your "Guitar Hero : Aerosmith" Install directory.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

I click OK:

---------------------------
GH:A BOOST
---------------------------
() Is that information correct?
---------------------------
Yes No
---------------------------

I click No:

---------------------------
GH:A BOOST
---------------------------
Please select your "Guitar Hero : Aerosmith" Install directory ,manually.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

I'm not sure what Registry key it's trying to access.

The whole (x86) thing is correct. When you're running Vista 64-bit (or XP 64-bit), your 64-bit apps go into "Program Files" and your 32-bit apps go into "Program Files (x86)".

Anyway, I set the folder manually to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Aspyr\Guitar Hero Aerosmith" and click "Animation Boost" and get:

---------------------------
GH:A BOOST
---------------------------
Invalid Path : (C:\Program Files (x86)\Aspyr\Guitar Hero Aerosmith), Please select your "Guitar Hero : Aerosmith" Install path.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Ok well ill try to find out what wrong, Just gimmie a couple days, Work , Programming and gaming are hard to get done at the same time. Also the program looks in the registry for the following key:
("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Aspyr\Guitar Hero Aerosmith", "Path")
I don't know if the registry is different with a x64 os, But do the following:
"Start" then "Run" then type "Regedit" then look for the key above, Example
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE , Software , Aspyr , Guitar Hero Aerosmith Then click the "Path" document. And tell me what it says. It should say "C:\Program files\Aspyr\Guitar Hero Aerosmith\" Or.......

OK. So I checked for that key. Didn't exist.

However "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Aspyr\Guitar Hero Aerosmith" did exist. So I copied that up a level.

Then I did the install and it seemed to work. Had to Run As Administrator as it's Vista.

Maybe you can do the standard registry check first, then if that fails, do the Wow6432Node registry check.

if im not mistaken, x64 Vista runs 32-bit apps from this install path... i think its just a way for Vista to sort which apps are 32bit and 64bit...

just a guess though, i refuse to use vista

When I click the Animation Boost, it says "Invalid... C:\Program Files\Aspyr\Guitar Hero Aerosmith". Please select your Guitar Hero : Aerosmith directory.
