Unless I go out to Montréal or Québec or anything this week, which is very unlikely, I won't see this movie until next month. Too bad Gaspé is very late with movies and such _________________

I'm supposed to see this tomorrow with my girlfriend, my best friend, and her family. I'm looking forward to it, but I'm afraid it might be sold out before by the time I get there (Although, since we're meeting at 11-12, I might as well get there earlier and get my ticket while I can). _________________

Gorgeous movie. Honestly, the cinematography is pure eye candy for the whole 2.5 hours.
I would normally write something long winded for a movie I enjoyed as much as this one, but I figured I could sum it up best by saying this: If the first five movies succeed because they are great Harry Potter movies, then this one succeeds because it is a great movie. _________________

Besides the fact that I didn't see 3-5, and I was dead tired, this movie was loads of fun to watch. I liked it a lot. Suspenseful, funny, and an overall thrill ride.
Me recommend. Now to sleep _________________

THis really sucks to say...because I think I stand alone, but I truly hated the movie. I thought it was the worst Harry Potter movie made to date.
The differences from the novel were very noticeable from a fan stand point and it led to some confusion and just straight up bad scenes.
They talked about Horcruxes for literally the last 20 minutes. Now I know that in the book Harry doesn't know about anything till Slughorn tells him, but that's more than 20 minutes worth of book. Horcruxes are the most important part of the ENTIRE Harry Potter universe, and they barely go over them in the movie.
Also, many of the memory scenes are cut. Harry, Ron, and Hermione, to the best of our knowledge, know do not have the prior knowledge of Nagini and Hufflepuff's cup as being Horcruxes, nor do they even know that Voldemort but Horcruxes in things from each founder of Hogwarts. This is also a key element, and they might have a hard time integrating it into the movie.
I also thought the movie didn't rely on story heavily to be considered good. A lot of the scenes jumped strangely. The relationship between Dumbledore and Harry is very improtant to this and the next book/movie. They took out them interacting almost entirely except for looking into the Pensieve and going to find the Horcrux. It felt VERY emtpy to me.
A lot of the movie was pure eye candy, and they also slipped in some humor and modern day hings. Dumbledore wanting a magazine after he takes a shit? WTF?
They also took out the huge battle scene at the end and did not have Dumbledore's funeral either. Both major disappointments.
I'm going to see the movie again, so maybe my opinion will change, but these are all major things that I really disliked about the movie. |

Spoilers ahead...
I personally thought it was a letdown (in the best sense.) With the 6th book being my favorite, I expected quite a bit, but for true book readers the movie came up short.
Let me explain... If someone had gone and seen the movie without reading the book but knew the background information on HP, they would have considered it a great movie. However, if you read the book and went to the movie, you would be somewhat dissappointed.
I agree with an above poster that said the relationship between Dumbledore and Harry is what drives the book forward. Its so key to these last books and it doesnt show in the film.
Also, I understand trying to be humorous and all, it was great to throw it in, but it got to an extent where it drove the story away from what was needed. Nearly 30 minutes to an hour was this romance comedy going on between many of the students (not to mention the Quidditch scene as well.) It got to the point where it drove the plotline and turned somewhat annoying.
Along with the relationship with Dumbledore, they barely mentioned this potions book that he had, which in the book was a major point of interest. Snape's telling to Harry that he was the Half-Blood Prince wasnt as nearly dramatic as it should have.
So, you see, compared to the book, it was actually quite bland. But as a normal movie standing on its own, it was absolutely amazing. I think the problem with converting the books to movies is there are so many details to incorporate, so many side-plots that cant get muddled with the most important details. Its up to the directors to either cut a detail completely, or go into depth on it, there should be no middle ground.
Now, the movie did have many high points however.
The memory scenes of Tom Riddle were amazing. The way Tom's voice echoes and hisses gave me the creeps.
Also, I liked how Harry was much more happy and open to people around him in this movie. In the 5th, he was a complete and total jerk.
I kinda liked how the sky in the background always fit the mood. When Hermoine was crying all over Harry's shoulder, the sky was almost a brownish color... It was strange, but I think it added to the movie.
My favorite part of the movie though was Draco's progression. He essentially had his own story and I thought they did it perfect. Ill let you guys see that one for yourself
Overall 8.5/10 |

But you aren't judging it as a movie here you are judging how well the movie relates to the book. This is what I tend to do as well. |

Hell, I loved the books and still thought the movie was great.
The only flaws in the movie, IMO:
- The little conversation between Snape/Dumbledore, prior to the cave. I know it's in there for people re-watching the 6th movie after the 7th, but I feel as if it kind of gave away part of the 7th book.
- Snape's revealing of being the HBP, wasn't as dramatic.
- A little too much Quidditch for my tastes.
Loved most of the humor, though. Not to mention seeing it in a full theater added to the effect (I think they had all 12 open, me and my mom were lucky to get mediocre seats at 11PM, and we had to go to another theater since the one we were assigned was full).
I kinda wanna see it again. _________________

Spoilers
I enjoyed it as a movie, but not as a representation of the book, which I really would have liked to see more...
I didn't like the thrown in scene with the Burrow being burned down and the chase scene accompanying it.
Like someone else said, not enough Horcrux business.
Also, what's with Felix Felicis making Harry seem completely stoned? _________________

Not true. I thought it was a decent movie at best. There was barely any character development save Malfoy, the relationship between Harry and Dumbledore was expressed in a mediocre fashion (in total they had about 5 scenes together), and Snape revealing that he's the Half-Blood Prince? That was such a joke. I only recognized two things that the HBP did for Harry, and that was help him with potions and the sans sernificus (spelling) spell. It made me question why the movie was called "and the Half Blood Prince" to begin with!
It seems to me that this movie franchise is just using the viewers prior knowledge of the book to fill in the holes of the screenplay, and in return, provide eye-candy. In short: to make a huge amount of money. But there were some scenes that were truly great (the Quidditch game->Hermonie boo-hooing and the Ron love potion scene) and it's very interesting to see how these actors and actresses grow. And if anything, it got me interested in reading the 5th, 6th and 7th books now (I stopped at the 4th).
I won't see it again, but I'll watch it if it's on a movie-channel. _________________
