I always thought the Alan Parsons Project album Tales of Mystery and Imagination flows really well, you could try giving that a listen. _________________

How about albums that are a grand total of one song long? I know of Transatlantic's The Whirlwind (which I need to get soon) and Green Carnation's Light of Day, Day of Darkness.
Dream Theater has Scenes From a Memory and Pain of Salvation's BE is a conceptual masterpiece... most Ayreon albums also flow pretty well too.
By the way, the correct term your looking for is "concept album" - album where the songs flow into each other and usually tell a story. _________________

Tommy - The Who
It's a freakin' rock opera. What else can you say?
Also almost all of Pink Floyd's albums have that feel, at least up until A Momentary Lapse of Reason. _________________

There's a five-page topic on concept albums here, you're bound to find a few ideas in there:

Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
This album speaks for itself.
And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead -Source Tags And Codes
This one isn't an epic in the traditional sense. It's your prototypical 11-song 45-minute album, but the quality of the songs themselves fit the definition of "epic" to a tee. Listen to 'Monsoon', 'Relative Ways' or 'How Near How Far' and then try to deny its epic quality. The album is just one giant sustained climax, literally speaking of course. _________________

I just want to incite a riot by saying that secretly The Wall is the WORST waters era Floyd album. Animals, Dark Side of the Mood, Meddle, Wish You Were Here, Obscured by Clouds and even Atom Heart Mother are all better albums that are way more enjoyable to listen to. The Wall is pointless pretentious tripe.
Oh yah, opinion by the way.
On topic:

Although I respect your opinion, I've NEVER heard anyone, especially a general Floyd fan shoot down that album like that. It's one of my favorites of all time, though I like Dark Side of the Moon better <-- fits into this thread. |

Im definitely exaggerating slightly to elicit a response. But the album could have easily been cut down to a single LP, and would be far more effective that way. As it stands it just goes on and on and on rehashing the same ideas over and over again. An album like Animals takes similar ideas and hones them to a fine point, and does not take 2 hours to listen to. There is really no reason for the canonical double album status of the Wall, effective double albums are usually conglomerations of many different ides that are listenable in their entirety because thay keep throwing new things at you (see the White Album, Blonde on Blonde). The Wall misses the point. _________________
