Are you kidding? The public education system is incredibly flawed in America, as it is in most other places on Earth. Kids in high school are simply not learning as well as they could in private institutions, and certainly could be spending this time in a more efficient manner. The quality of our nation would increase if individuals were less indoctrinated into the "MUST FINISH HIGH SCHOOL" mentality and started learning in the best school they can get into (which is pretty much any with a good score on the GED, I'm fucking serious) as soon as they're ready to, which is often before they obtain their diploma.
It's logic. Many kids hate the fact that they waste entire years in high school without knowing that it is almost entirely unnecessary in order to get into a good 4-year university.
EDIT:

It's not dropping out. Why does nobody know about this?!?! It's a withdrawal (sp?) from mandatory education. Dropping out implies that you no longer attend school, while what I advocate is withdrawing from high school when you're ready for college, getting your GED, and going to a better school where you will receive a better education. Look into it. |

You do realize that high school IS a PUBLIC institution, which is paid through taxes. Any form of private education would cost families' money, which most families do not have the liberty of paying for. So what if it's flawed; there's no practical solution. _________________

Wow... the Earth as a whole? I guess we're really fucked now...
What you fail to realize is that Colleges and Universities, especially good ones, cost money. Not everyone has the funding necessary to take on a full 4-year-college degree. You're also under the assumption that everyone in HS is pretty intelligent and that they're all about learning, so standardized tests should be a piece of cake, right?... not the case. If you've been to any high school's recently you would see that...
If kids were really interested in learning I think that teachers and schools would have no problem teaching more advanced material. The fact that they're dumbing the standards down so people can actually graduate just goes to show how pathetic some kids' motivation for learning really is. The material hasn't been getting much harder, and technology is making it even easier to access and understand information these days. Kids just don't seem to give a shit anymore, and that is sad. _________________

AH CHRIST do I hate how I fail to adequately convey my point.
Obviously a lot of kids don't care. I was in high school not too long ago. That's one of the largest problems. High school is mostly about getting grades and graduating, and the standards for both are often incredibly low to accommodate. Free, public classes are fairly easy compared to their private counterparts due to the student body. That isn't going to change anytime soon.
BUT, that's where college comes in (yes, I am PAINFULLY aware that it costs money ). If you have a full-time job and student loans (both easy to acquire), you can do it. It takes some fucking effort. My point wasn't that EVERYONE should dropout immediately (that's retarded LOL), it was that if you aren't happy at your current situation in high school there are other options. You don't need a diploma, and you certainly don't need to go through high school when you're ready for a more professional learning atmosphere.
Its all about your happiness, really. No one needs to suffer, there are always options. |

This kid seems prepared, so need for hate, amirite?
As for "dropping out" I am actually going to be doing this as soon as I turn 16. My family is poor and can't afford for me to even go to a community college, so I'm dropping out at 16, getting my GED, then working for a year or two to save up for payments for my college education.
P.S. I am definately prepared for college, I'm considered a genious and High School is way too boring and easy anyways. _________________

Follow your happiness and let no brainwashed slaves of society stand in your way, and if you require a high school diploma to do so, go ahead, but NEVER judge another based on what certificates they have in their possession or the little letters they worked for to get them.
And if YOU EVEN FUCKING READ THE ORIGINAL POST you would have seen that he is now homeschooled, as he himself had to point out. Its as if you people don't even care about anything but the title of the topic.

Not exactly how I would have worded it but, this was pretty much what I wanted to say. I just don't see why so many people think that if you stray too far from the beaten path then you're life is just fucked. Come on folks, this is America... land of opportunity!
Anyway, best of luck to you sir! _________________

Ironic...
I like how much nicer the posts have gotten after Dreminem himself has posted. Most people here had no problems at all saying, "Ur ztoopid!" and the like until they realized he's actually reading everything you guys say.
Do I think it's a bad decision? Yes, yes I do... But I don't know his situation. The article never said he didn't have back up plan, so it's unfair for most of you to assume he doesn't have one. The situation's suspicious for sure, but give him benefit of the doubt. I think he'd know a little more about his preparation for success in his life than you would.
Also the notion that being a phenomenal Guitar Hero player and being a member of Score Hero have to go hand in hand is almost laughable. Or maybe you guys are right... I guess I just wasn't aware that GH games gave free points to Score Hero members. _________________

About 30% of this thread is on topic and decent, the other 90% is complete garbage. How does that add up? All I know is it adds up to this thread being locked. _________________
