I had this on PS1 briefly but lost it... It was amazing and i'm really looking forward to playing it on handheld (especially since IV and V have been so great)! I'll get it sometime... too bad FF XII is out in 5 days time! |

I've got it for PS1 and SNES. I really don't think I need another copy of it... although, the prospect of being able to play it where ever I go is intriguing........... doubt I will, because I don't play much on my consoles right now... _________________

I played FFVI well after its time (I didn't really get into RPG's until Earthbound and later, FFVII), but it is now one of my favorite games ever. Certainly my second favorite retro RPG only to Chrono Trigger.
I read that they changed some of the wording in the opera scene for this remake, though......SACRILEGE!!! |

Another one they changed was the best quote ever
FFVi orginal Kefka: SON OF A SUBMARINER
FFVI new kefka: SON OF A SANDWORM
Which sounds better? Yeah I thought so.
Most are worded differently, though, same result in the end. They changed items and spells for the better, and got rid of several grammer errors, changed monster names (nearly all are different), and the Espers now give HUGE stat boosts this time around, as FFVI advance is way overpowered compared to the original. _________________

I heard about a new bonus dungeon, but that I'm not sure about. I always like having a new place to go with tougher battles and better weapons to equip. |

IIRC the correct translation was "Son of a Bitch!" which of course was changed for the US SNES version (seeing as they couldn't get away with language like that back then). Relm was also supposed to have a lot more of a lip than they gave her.
However, Espers still give the same bonuses they always gave (I double-checked versus my SNES copy). Just the 4 new ones give very nice bonuses...Cactuar in particular seeing as the only esper prior that gave a +Speed was Odin (meaning you had to wait to transform it into Raiden) and that was only +1. _________________

They nerfed Vanish-Doom/X-Zone.
That, my friend, is balls. _________________

I was hoping for a difficulty INCREASE, as FF6 is unfortunately really easy post-Espers. Everyone learning all the magic + stat boosts when you level + stuff like Genji Glove+Offering + Blitz/etc. = very little challenge.
There's ROM patches for the SNES version that increase the difficulty quite a lot, like making only the natural magic users able to use magic (Terra, Celes, and I think Strago and Relm). It also fixed the Evade/MEvade and Blind bugs, which are hopefully also fixed in this GBA port.
Oh, and opera change is blasphemy. |

Okay, the new translation isn't ALL bad.....
I was just looking at the game scripts for differences (yes, very bored) and noticed this:
Code: |
SNES:
Locke: Celes, here, was one of the Empire's generals...
Cyan: Grrr! I knew she seemed familiar. Sir Gau, out of my way!
Cyan: This is General Celes! She torched Maranda! She's an
Imperial Spy! Now, stand aside!
GBA:
Locke: Celes here was one of the Empire's gener--
Cyan: So it is her! I thought she looked familiar. Sir Gau, step aside!
Cyan: The infamous General Celes... The woman single-handedly
responsible for the decimation of Maranda... Stand and
meet thy judgment, Imperial b--

Which do you like better? |
