While discussing Rock Band 2 at school today, I asked my friends for their opinions on GH:WT. They all hate it and say that Guitar Hero is copying Rock Band. That and "it's not Guitar Hero anymore" are they're only defenses for the topic.
I don't know why there is so much hate towards the other instruments. Should I allow them to criticize something they have barely any knowledge about?

Ignorance is bliss, let them think what they want. If they are ignorant enough not to listen to your arguments, let them believe whatever they want. _________________

Complete opposite at my lunch table . One of my friends said RB2 was copying a lot of things of GH4. It's really impossible to change most average people's minds about these things, so I just respect their opinion and move on. _________________

Ask them who started the most successful rhythm game series.
If GH:WT copied RB, what did RB copy in the first place? I'm sure they didn't come up with the vertical scrolling notes, 5 stars, overdrive etc. all by themselves. _________________

No, it's entirely true, Neversoft did rip off the four instrument design of Rock Band. It's almost exactly how Rock Band ripped off the plastic instruments - the general similarities between the games are not copyrighted, and in both cases (Rock band and GH:WT) it's just the other company trying to prevent a stranglehold monopoly on the Rhythm Game industry.

Especially in RB, knuckle heads grab a guitar and think they are Hendrix and starts mashing the frets. Next thing you know someone has inadvertently navigated you to the the RB store and just wasted $2 on some Jimmy Buffet song about a cheeseburger in a volcano.

What really irks me is when kids say GH is ripping off RB2's set list (or vice versa). Like, nevermind the fact that both Neversoft and Harmonix have said it takes no less then 3 months to get songs in the game and both games are coming out within a month of each other. So, unless Neversoft hired some Spies or something...
But also the fact that usually bands are only willing to license one or two songs, and getting the rights to a song that has been licesned already is probably a trivally easy thing to do. BUT NO NONE OF THIS MATTERS BECAUSE ACTIVISION IS THE FUCKING DEVIL MEANWHILE HARMONIX IS GIVING 100% OF IT'S PROFITS TO STARVING CHILDREN WITH AIDS |

Did your friends honestly think that, when facing an opposing music company taking control of the music video game industry on four different instruments, Activision would sit around and change nothing? I mean, come on. Were your friends really that surprised when Guitar Hero expanded to more instruments?
Yes, the franchise is called 'Guitar Hero.' So what? Harmonix was originally going to make Guitar Hero 3 just like Rock Band, would they go cut themselves about it then? Or if Guitar Hero: World Tour was going to be called a name without "Guitar Hero" in it, would they buy it? If your friends are dissing a game by what it's called, they need to take a serious look at the gameplay. Is it a guitar game? No. Is it (probably going to be) an amazing, mind-blowing game? Yes.
They think it's just a carbon copy of Rock Band, huh? Well, you could go into deep discussion on how not only this statement isn't true, but that it would make any ScoreHero member cringe in disgust to say this statement. You could talk about how Rock Band 2's main asset now is not the full band experience, but the hundreds and hundreds of songs available. You could likewise talk about how the Guitar Hero franchise is all about introducing new gameplay aspects, such as the new instruments, notes, instrument specs, or the song creator. If they actually listened to all of that, I'd bet their opinions would change drastically.
But, chances are their minds are set in stone that Guitar Hero sucks and Rock Band is the best thing since sex. Explaining everything now would probably be a waste of time, your friends would probably just shrug it off. I can see it now:
You: The new Guitar Hero game has a 'song creator' function which Rock Band doesn't have.
Your friend: But they're copying Rock Band by making drums and shit.
You: But there's also the touch sensity of the drums and the touch strip on the guitar--
Your friend: But they're copying Rock Band by making the drums.
You: Rock Band wasn't the first game to include drums and vocals.
Your friend: Guitar Hero didn't copy any other game but Rock Band. Guitar Hero wouldn't change a thing without Rock Band being there.
You: But what about the song creator and everything that they DIDN'T copy?
You friend: ...They're gonna suck. They're probably gonna be, like, really rushed and cruddy.
You: But--
Your friend: Look, Guitar Hero's gonna suck. They copied Rock Band. Shut up.
Instead, just wait until the game comes out. Then, you can show your friends how different Guitar Hero: World Tour is, and that will be ten times as effective.
People don't like change sometimes, especially if they're already satisfied. So, sometimes you need to be aggressive to make your friends accept that the changes are there, and chances are that they'll be thankful for that in the later run. |

I wish people would just grow up and accept the fact that they are both superb games, and we will all enjoy playing them both in Plastic Instruments Land. |

In my opinion:
Guitar Hero WT < Rock Band Franchise
Emphasis on Guitar Hero.
That should mean,"Hey, let's not start making a party game, and keep it simple, like we've been doing. People buy our game, and everything is neat and tidy."
Besides for the absurd timing window, Guitar Hero 3 was perfect. Everyone could play, and there were plenty of difficult charts for elite players. Not to mention DLC. _________________

This, except my respect for ignorant or seriously uninformed opinions is practically non-existant :P I just try to ignore them. |
