DLC is a good way to stay interested in the game, but the bland songs that are prevalent on RB DLC really just pissed me off. As such, I think WT should certainly have more DLC than GH3, but not nearly as much as RB. |

...what?
Seriously. I tried writing a measured, logical response to this but I just couldn't. Your post defies rationality on so many levels, I don't know where to begin. |
PS2 and Wii users can't play battle songs in other mode than face-off in Career. There is no "Devil Went Down to Georgia" on PS2/Wii, there is only "Guitar Battle against Lou"... _________________

That's kinda weird...you don't have to buy the songs that you don't like. More DLC is better...and someone might actually like the songs you find bland. |

Yes, I know. But beyond not putting the battle songs on the disc, which was stupid, FlimFlam was suggesting not putting out DLC for anyone. Which is idiotic.

Yeah i think they should step it up big time to weekly ala Rock Band. Hopefully they can maintain quality though... _________________

I think there's a quality/quantity rift between the two companies; Rock Band 2's biggest asset is the hundreds of songs available, and Guitar Hero: World Tour is more about new features, like the Song Creator, open notes, and the touch strip on the new guitar. What I think needs to happen is a reverse; that is, Neversoft starts to focus on more songs while Harmonix tries to add as much as possible to the gameplay itself. Of course, we don't know how popular the new features in World Tour will be...
The point, that the companies should shift their focuses eventually to include both quality and quantity. (Note: this isn't to say that Rock Band's gameplay sucks, or that Neversoft's DLC isn't great. It's just to say that they have their pros and cons over each other.) |
Having a lot of content to choose from is what makes Rock Band a great party game. . _________________

well, they're going the full side-game route, so i don't know how much they need to. they've sort of already cemented that as their MO. as a result, i have no hesitation to buy the guitar hero: metallica game, but i'd be hesitant to purchase DLC for the games even if it were to come out because i'm not ensured of forward compatibility. what they did with the new metallica album between GH3 and GHWT is promising though...
still, i have to say DLC in general is really awesome. all this 84 vs 86... i've got about 340 or something once the peace sells... album comes out. |

Yes, so I should pay about 4 times as much for a 360 than a PS2 and about 10-15 dollars more for a game and get absolutely nothing better out of it, that makes a lot of sense |
By this logic you'd have to pay well over 100$ in DLC, since 4X as much is 280 for GH3 or 300+ for world tour. I don't know exactly how much DLC costs per song as a wii user, but wii gets DLC with world tour, and PS2 is a last generation system, so i think DLC should stay. ( I also think they should offer GH3 DLC for world tour so wii users can get GH3 DLC) _________________

a large portion of buyers most likely won't spend extra money on DLC.
honestly, it'll come down to which game is marketed better. |

I think they really need to step it up. Some things need to be addressed though. I am a rock band player mostly and have tons of DLC but will buy GH:WT. whether or not I buy DLC depends if I know for sure it will work going forward and whether or not they fix the file size issue. I could upgrade to the 120 GB HD but don't want to and at the size of the Death Magnetic album I could fit allot more RB DLC so I would go with that.
Also I would like to see allot more variety in the DLC. Others here have already said they hate all the "bland" DLc that RB comes out with but I like most of that stuff. While I can play upper tier stuff, I prefer tier 5-7 type stuff on Drums and guitar. Not to mention that many tier 1 songs end up being very fun on vocals. My fear is GH:WT will put too much emphasis on difficulty. To be fair though the setlist looks pretty good.
Also they really need to try to not duplicate RB DLC. I understand that some things are in the works for a while and it can happen but they will lose sales. |

On this subject...
Quote: | - Guitar Hero releases will triple by 2010, which includes retail and DLC scene |
The retail part annoys me greatly, but that's sort of off topic. The DLC part I'm pretty psyched for, as long as it actually means more quality DLC at a faster rate. Given what they've offered recently and of what we know will be available for World Tour as of now, I think they're on the right track. This may just be tied into the "more retail releases" thing, but I doubt there would be that much DLC made available for any of the specific artist focused games.

That weekly GH DLC quote is a great step in the right direction if it is true. Here is another interesting quote I found from a PR heavy article (especially that disgusting piece of twisted data 6:1 my ass)
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick wrote: | “Our nearest comtpetitor [EA/MTV Games] has a couple hundred people working on these projects,” added Kotick. “We have close to 2000 people just dedicated to the Guitar Hero note tracking, introduction of new hardware, and introduction of new software, so we just have a lot more in the way of resources available to us to continue to dominate the category.” Source |
The fact is is that HMX has committed itself to releasing a shitload of high quality DLC at a lot better price and a much faster pace. For some reason, I highly doubt that GH will go from from 3 a month, expensive DLC in inflexible packs (with exceptions of course) to 25+ individual songs that are as inexpensive as RBs. If you expect to get anything but buisiness as usual from GH, you've got another thing coming.
I predict that beyond the first month or so when they might play nice with a few free DLs, expect the standard 3 pack a week (or less) for 500 points (or more) _________________
