Quote:
The Amazing Kreskin has been predicting the future for five decades.

Last year, he said he predicted the New York Giants would win the Super Bowl by three points. They did, 17-14, over the New England Patriots.

Then there was the matter of the presidential election. He said he called that, too, picking Barack Obama in December 2007, the month before the Iowa Caucus and 10 months before the Nov. 4 election.

Skeptics, or believers, can find the details of how the mentalist made those predictions on his Web site, www.amazingkreskin.com.

Here is a look at his predictions for 2009, and beyond, made during a Dec. 19 telephone interview from his northern New Jersey office. The 73-year-old Kreskin spoke nearly nonstop, largely choosing the topics and predictions during a 30-minute conversation.

* The economy

If the (government) increases bailouts to more and more areas of the economy, then the recession will last longer, up to 4 1/2 years. Bailouts remind me of a novelty gimmick -- you take a blank piece of paper, put it in a machine, and money rolls out the other end.

* Hollywood will slowly disappear.

The entertainment capital is more of a legend than a reality. Hollywood will move to India and the state of Connecticut. Connecticut will have one of the greatest financial boosts in decades; give it 2 to 2 1/2 years (to happen)

* The Obama administration.

If he doesn't win a second term, it is not going to be because of who is running against him. There will be a growing effort to have Hillary Clinton run for president again in 2012. (He couched his comments in the context that we tend to blame the party in power for a poor economy, which is why he thought the Democrats would win the White House in the last election.)

* It's curtains -- for all of us.

One business that will increase in the weeks and months to come will be those that sell curtains. Years ago, when we were kids, there was no air-conditioning. Windows were covered with heavy drapes to keep out the heat in summer and cold in winter. People will live life rather comfortably in much less expensive ways in the future.

* Divorces will decrease.

Law professions are losing business because of cost. I think we are going to see, after the first of the year, fewer divorces because they are more expensive. People just can't afford to hire lawyers.

* UFO sightings and talking to the dead

This bothers me, Kreskin says. There will be more and more sightings of UFOs and more and more cases of people who believe they talked to the dead, not that I believe in spirit communications. I do believe in UFOs.

* Resurgence for mom-and-pop stores.

The decline of the shopping malls is happening all over the U.S. About one-fifth of stores are going out of business. My heart goes out to the people. We are going to see the return --and thank goodness -- of mom-and-pop stores. As people spend less time traveling great distances and have a need for close communication, mom-and-pop stores will be an awakening of part of the American culture that was very important to us economically and socially.

* Clowns gain new status.

The clown will have new degrees of prestige and importance. They are important in therapy. They communicate in a nonverbal way. They will have an important role in ways to come.

* A comeback for train travel.

My heart goes out to airline industry. I think that as the industry diminishes and narrows, we are going to rediscover efforts repressed by airlines and politicians of the past -- traveling in trains. It's a less expensive way to travel, and very convenient.

* Shepherd's pie, anyone?

In the food area, we are going to see the awakening of the enjoyment of eating shepherd's pie (meat pie baked with a layer of mashed potatoes serving as the top crust.) It's very common in England. There's going to be a great rediscovery of leftovers, which Kreskin says have always been his favorite form of food.

* We'll rediscover the kitchen table.

The center of the house will be the kitchen table -- as it was for our ancestors, sitting around without a TV in front of them or a cell phone in the hand. We have become a socially dysfunctional society. Teachers say they see it even in young people. But we can make it; it will require that people bond together closer.

* The Super Bowl

Sorry, folks. Kreskin wouldn't bite on picking a team or a point spread publicly in advance, saying he didn't want to influence betting. "I don't want anyone to even lose two bucks (in this economy)," he said.

I stopped reading at "Clowns gain new status."

That guy is making all of this up. I'd like to see the list of things he DIDN'T get right.

I still wouldn't mind the US taking a more traditional turn. Train travel and regular meals at the kitchen table? Mom-and-pop stores? I do like the sound of that.

Contemporary social style makes me think I'm a misanthropist.

My friend pointed this out to me right after I posted. Notice it says he said he predicted the Super Bowl and the presidential election.

Some of his predictions are more educated guesses than anything. For example, divorces are obviously going to decrease in a struggling economy where lawyers are more expensive.

Something like this happened several years ago near where I live. This thing the farmer's almanac or whatever finally correctly predicted some severe winter storm and then everyone went crazy and thought the farmer's almanac was like psychic or something. They never mentioned all the times the almanac was wrong.

tl;dr - everyone who makes many predictions is bound to get a few right.

Predicting who will win, and by how many points in the SuperBowl is an amazing guess if you ask me. So is predicting the next president before the caucuses. I think this guy is really smart, and I would listen to some of the stuff he says as reasonable guesses but not fact.

Don't forget he only claimed me made those predictions. I don't think he is lying though, why would people listen to him in the first place if he only said he predicted things.
