There isn't any memorization because it's always a different color combination...I couldn't even get your times with a 2x2 one...lol |
It is mostly memorization lol. You do have to find what piece is where because they are always in a different spot but you use the same sequence of turns to solve it everytime. |
Isn't that kind of like cheating....
I don't know, I still couldn't get half as good, WITH REAL cheating... |
Why would that be cheating? Solvers memorize the algorithms required to move pieces exactly where they want them to go, and the actual solve is pretty easy from there. _________________

Yes, notice my use of the words REAL CHEATING in the above quote.
I'm sure they memorize algorithms which makes it sound that much more challenging _________________

well....bought my 6X6 from the site suggested for 60 bucks o.O no matter, i work, so i get paid weekly . its gonna take me awhile to solve this though....i resolved my 5X5 just to brush up on some old algorithms, and it took near 20 minutes to solve =/. _________________

(I'm new, I dunno about the rules of reviving topics, so if I'm breaking a rule, sorry)
I average around 35, lower 30s when I'm doing good. I use a simplified version of the Fridrich method, and I've been cubing since August '07. Actually, funny enough, I'll be going to a competition in NJ on Saturday, hopefully I can film some of it.
I can solve tons of different puzzles, and I'm also into collecting. Recently I've been trying to get into modding, but I don't have the steadiest hands. :P
Given the time, I can basically solve any NxNxN cube. I own a 1x1x1(lol) up to a 5x5x5, and a 7x7x7. I'd get a 6x6x6, but I hear they're very unstable.
Check out my YouTube channel if you want to see me solve some puzzles.

i was wondering if this thread would ever pop up again...i give full credit to this thread for getting me started on cubing
currently i average about 40 sec and my best time is 29 s, i can also solve any size cube given the time because i own a 3x3 thru 7x7 and know the general algs that could solve any size, plus i learned how to do the megaminx which is very similar to the 3x3
anyways big thanks to this thread for getting me going and giving an excellent time killer for long road trips or boring afternoons _________________

My brother and his friend can do rubik's cubes really well. I'm not sure of the exact times though. _________________

I have the basic 3x3x3 cube, but I can't solve it at all. The best I can get is two adjacent sides. And that's a rarity. I really want to solve this, but I can't seem to do it, and I was HOPING someone could help me out. Thanks if you can!
Also, has anyone seen the article about the new Rubik's 360? Seems pretty interesting. |

SK: Let me know if drew shows up with something insane again If memory serves he lives up in the boston area, so he should be able to make his way down there.
TAKE PICS AND POST THEM ON TP!
Also, the V-Cube 6 really isn't that bad. You just can't finger trick everything...some turns require your whole hand to turn it, and you need to make sure none of the layers are out of alignment or you'll have a piece flying at your face ;)

i didnt like the main tutorial for 3x3s on youtube it went too quickly and i didnt really understand...i really liked the tutorials by a guy named badmephisto search his name on youtube and they should come up he explained the basic solve very well and then once youre ready to move on from that he also has excellent tutorials on more advanced methods _________________

Thank you SO MUCH! I was never able to solve this until I saw this video! I had to write down the algorithms and I studied them last night. I can now consistently hit around 3 minutes. I need to get the speed down though! |

It's really not as hard as people make it out to be. Once you know the algorithms, it's like "pffft, Rubik's Cube? I can do that".
Anyway, within the next couple days I'm going to be editting video clips I took at the competition, so subscribe to me if you want to get notified when it's done and uploaded. _________________

Just solved my first V-Cube 7, which isn't too much of a big step from a 5.
I'm going to try and solve it sub-40 minutes soon :P
Also, V-Cube>Rubik's Cube. It's so much smoother and feels less breakable. Of course, it's more expensive though |
