How am I supposed to convince someone to like one of my favourite bands?
If you don't get NIN after giving their music a chance what can I post about to convince you both otherwise.
Saying NIN is overrated is a pleasure reserved for Skinny Puppy fans though XD |
I'm not trying to test you or anything, I just never caught on with NIN and was wondering how most of you got hooked. _________________

I'm sad to see him take a hiatus as a fan, but the guy's certainly earned it. _________________

The part I bolded in toymachine's answer pretty much sum's in up, if you listened to their music and didn't like it, then we have little chance of convincing you otherwise. |

You're probably right. I mean, a few years ago I hated a lot of my current favorites based on very limited listenings. I've heard a decent amount of NIN songs but couldn't connect with any of them. My musical taste has dramatically changed and I thought giving NIN another go would work, but, as you said, if it hasn't happened yet it probably won't. _________________

NIN sounds vary greatly from song to song, unlike what most bands produce (not that it's a bad thing, in either case). I don't think there is a single album where I like every song on it, but I still love NIN.
Apparently I'm the only person who dislikes 1,000,000 and Lights in the Sky but loves Head Down and Letting You. Discipline and Echoplex are still amazing. Unrelated, but I also hate Closer. I don't see why it of all things became popular.
I got into NIN through Rock Band, really. Sort of. I listened to a lot of mainstream NIN (Every Day is Exactly the Same, Only, Head Like a Hole, etc.) when I downloaded the Slip and enjoyed most of it. From there I downloaded the NIN Track Pack 01. From there I downloaded the Downward Spiral and loved it. Then came Track Pack 02 and from there I downloaded Broken and I love it even moreso than the Slip or The Downward Spiral. So, as dumb as this is going to sound when talking about music, it comes down to your taste.
If you've given NIN quite a bit of listening and you still don't listen to it, then you probably can't force yourself to like it. I, however, will continue to enjoy it.
Edit: For someone on the fence, this guy has a shit ton of live LitS vids in HD. Give a listen and test the waters.
Also what's up with all the SoaD shit. >_> _________________

As long as they keep releasing free albums when they come back, i'm fine with it.
Also, System of a Down needs to re-band together. _________________

There's been talk of SOAD doing the Eurovision contest in this year or the next. They have no say, but they daid that if they did do it, they would have to be allowed to talk about the Armenian Genocide in either the song or a speech. _________________

Hehe, well.. I have actually checked out some NIN. But the genre is so weird. It's like a mix between 10 genres.. :p
The reason I said it was overrated was because everyone on SH seems to love it, and I don't understand why :p
But yeah, everyone likes different music, and I respect that (sorry for sounding like a fucking geek). _________________
