Oh god...I tried to learn Unholy Confessions that way. It made it 100 times harder than it should have been so I just gave up and downpicked it all :P

I still can't play that riff after a whole year. Any suggestions, anybody??

Alternate picking a riff like Unholy Confessions (Just got a GP tab, so I hope it's accurate. I've never heard the song before) isn't terribly hard for me. If I were to alternate pick and string skip in a riff like that I would die*. Buckwheat33: Don't sweat it. Guitar isn't a race.

As crazy as it sounds, F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X. by Fall of Troy is actually relatively simple and fun. It is also repetitive and easy to memorize. Basket Case by Green Day is also a very easy song to learn. Just make sure you can keep track of which notes to palm mute. If you have heard the song before (and you probably have), then it shouldn't be too hard.

You probably already know this, but backing tracks are VERY useful in helping you keep the beat of the song, and the song just sounds better overall.
Curious- Do you alternate pick the main riff of FCP, or go all down (or economy?).
If you're looking for something hard, I'm having some fun with playing Six by All That Remains through, also Mr Crowley, YYZ, Cemetery Gates, Crazy Train, Sultans of Swing (In descending difficulty, including solos)

I go all down. It is the easiest way for me to play it.

Man, I learn too many solos and too little rhythm stuff. I can play it fine, but I can't downpick for my life. I use alternate and economy on everything ><

To not be off-topic almost completely - "Always With Me, Always With You" by Satch is beautiful and fun to play.

I can't sweep pick for my life and am not the best at soloing. I barely get by being able to play something that sounds kind of like a song's solo just enough for people to not notice I am actually soloing. I focus mostly on rhythm stuff.

Blink 182 has awesomely easy, super duper catchy pop punk riffs that'll give anybody a boner. Highly recommend looking up tabs for some of them.

Haha true statement. Going Away to College is a freaking amazing song by them, and it has a few sweet riffs in it. The intro chords just crank my tractor for some reason.

ok well someone said 7 months was vague.... umm ok well i have a great teacher and played a lot of guitar hero so i think im pretty good for 7 months. i learned minor pentatonics and ive done triads and am working on modes. i know lots of music theory for how long ive been playing. ive played songs like rock n roll, heartbreaker, over the hills and far away, and whole lotta love by led zeppelin none of which were challenging (yes including solos on all the songs)

kek, I'm pretty much the opposite.
Right now my main focus is getting out of my pentatonic box, and I'm focusing with my teacher on the Ionian mode and improvising in it. Downpicking is crap, alternate and economy are pretty good Z:
I'm actually gonna go and practice me some downpicking now, I'll slow down unholy confessions in GP and go all down

Edit: So it seems Unholy Confessions at any slow bpm is not hard for me, but only on full speed. So I'm just playing the song over and over :P

If you don't mind not learning the solo, Seasons in the Abyss by Slayer is an easy, down tempo yet brutal track, and the chorus is sinfully catchy.

Hell yes. Great song, the tapping bit near the end sounds amazing and is a lot of fun to play.

As for simpler stuff, most Metallica songs have easy/intermediate riffs, a few good of my favourites are Seek & Destroy, For Whom the Bell Tolls and Fade to Black.

Ive been focusing a lot about my improv soloing and theory lately, but i think i need to focus on my rhythm guitar too. so for discipline and for rhythm practice and for the sake of knowing some good songs, id like to learn some full songs, every part of them and get them down GREAT. any suggestions? i dont care if the solos are really hard ill skip them if i have to, thats not what im focusing on. ive been playing for 7 or so months, so you can send me challenging things, just no dream theater or stuff like that if you have good tabs thats helpful too but not necessary.

Try these songs:

We're Not Gonna Take It - Twisted Sister
Breaking the Law - Judas Priest
Psycho - Puddle of Mudd
Hammerhead - The Offspring
Come Out and Play - The Offspring
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Welcome Home - Coheed and Cambria (RHYTHM)

and, of course, my song

Rocker's Night Out (Next Day Hammered)

Hope I helped

Mother by Danzig is extremely easy overall.

Man, it seems every song I talk about now I can somehow relate it back to Guitar Hero. I didn't even get into 99% of these bands because of the game.

The Trees by Rush is another one, and it's good for bettering yourself in certain techniques. For example, the intro is in 6/8 and its finger picked, but very short and not difficult to learn. Very useful to know. Then there's a bunch of power chords in 4/4 and basic chords in 6/8 then the drum solo. The arpegggios in the drum solo are probably my favorite out of any song. Goes very well with the flute if you can get a backing track. Then a very simple arpeggio pattern in 5/4 which can help if you struggle with time signatures. Then a pretty simple solo, fun to play, and the outro is basically the 6/8 basic chords from before.

Tl;Dr consider the trees, very fun and relatively simple
