I think that, not only in games, but in everything else, anyone can be really good at anything, with time and effort.
But, there are these people who have a natural talent and are just amazing at some specific things and, no matter how much amount of time you put on it, you'll never be as good as then.
You wanna be a good or great basketball player? Train hard, put a lot of time on it, and you'll be. You want to be Lebron or Kobe? Unless you're as gifted as then, than your only option is to reborn.
Same goes for GH. I've started failing on Easy back on GH1, could not hit a single YO Chord, after 2+ years playin A LOT and training HARD now I can 5* TTFAF almost anytime, but to reach Phenom, JLC, Chris, HellAshes (and a bunch of others) level?
I can play this game for the rest of my life and still won't get that far, because I don't have their skill, I'm just playing for a lot of time to be good, and I think I really am, but not gifted. _________________

I think that most people just have natural talent. Although this does not mean that they were always amazing. It takes long playing. It's a long journey for most people.
MOst people just play for fun which I did and started loving the game much more than any other video game. I didnt play a lot but i would always play GH when I played videogames.
I've been playing since Gh2. I used to just play easy and I became good at that, then medium, got good at that, then hard and struggled, then expertand could pass most songs and I thought I was good.
I could pass almost every song in the games even Raining Blood. 3* was good for me. Then, I wanted to beat TTFAF. I learned about tapping, but still couldn't pass. I slowly got better at expert. I could get 5* easy songs on expert; suddenly i wanted to 5* as many songs as i could. Then something just clicked, my fingers got faster, i could hit gallops, and finnaly i could alt- strum. I 5* every song in the tiers for gh3 except raining blood. I worked very hard and finally 5* it after much practice. This is when I broke thorugh and could 7* songs, get 284k on raining blood, many fcs, now i can 5* any song in the series except Jordan and TTFAF(4*)..To make a long story short, i think it depends on how much a person enjoys the game and how they are willing to slowly get better, it is a LONG journey and some people want to go down that road and some can get there faster than others. Also, there is usually that one moment when it "clicks" |

Exactly what I was about to post.
When GH1 first came out and I played it at my friends, I often times failed on the tougher Easy songs. A few months later, I got my PS2 and bought the game (I could now play Medium and was quite proud of myself). Within two weeks though, I could play on Expert. I've been playing Guitar Hero since January of 2007, and started to actually get good with GH3's release. Since then, I have definitely improved, but I feel that I've reached the height of my skill. As Chioro said, I don't think there is enough time left in this world for me to improve to the level of some of the top players, or even get beyond 55 FCs.

It's dedication, and the motivation for that 1st place score, I could say the same about scorehero, if there was no Scorehero, then JLC wouldn't be half as good as he is now, I'm assuming.
I been playing for 1.5 years, although I literally only been playing about 1hour a week for the last 6 months..... I put a LOT of time into it before that though, so I'm going to go out on a limb here and say "TIME is more important than skill" as long as you are dedicated. |
While this topic is all about opinion, I found this post rather inaccurate. I know for a fact that Danny didn't start playing Guitar Hero until GH3. While dedication does play a key role, it definitely takes more than this to become a top ranked player. Now I know that people will say Danny is the exception, but a lot of the other top players have put a lot less time into the game than, I would imagine, some other average players.
And also, you know what they say about assuming. Assume makes an ass out of u and me ;) _________________

Another interesting question: If someone is impressed with your GH ability (or any ability at all), would you rather have them say "Wow, you're so talented!" or "Wow, you must have practiced really hard!"? I'm not sure I know the answer to this. _________________

Exactly the point I was trying to make!
Sort of.
(I was taking the practice-is-compliment, talent-is-magic approach) _________________

I thin talent just has to do with how long it takes someone to learn/master a section.
I always here people say, "Oh section x only took me an hour of practise", while that same section took me WEEKS to learn. We still have the same skill (both able to hit the section), just some people learn it quicker. _________________

I got good at the game by putting time into it. I used to fail on medium and now I can 5 star just about everything on expert. |
