If you are having problems with audio stutter in the game, heres what you need:
1. At least 2GB RAM (you should have this already)
2. Pentium 4 3.0GHz Processor or better
The fix is quite simple really.
1. Go to C:/documents and settings/(user)/local settings/application data/aspyr/guitar hero world tour
2. Open AspyrData.xml in notepad
3. Change the value "Audio.BuffLen" to "4096"
4. Press save, and quit notepad
Reason?
(corrected thanks to maxkiller) If your processor is slow, it might take longer to process the audio. Giving it more memory opens up a larger time frame for the processor to take care of the audio, therefore it wont skip.
Also, having a faster computer than the minimum requirements say you should have (almost exactly the same as GH3, but definatly incorrect). Make sure that at least 25% of your hard drive is empty, and finally, close any applications you dont need while playing the game.

All internal lengths are usually in bytes. This value is the latency in bytes, which means the number of bytes decoded and put into memory at a time. More means more decoding but smoother playback, less means less decoding but (a potentially) choppy playback. There is definitely more then one buffer in memory at a time, so do not assume that only 4KB of memory are used. It is all about read (playback) versus write (decoding).
Audio playback is the lightest operation the game does, compared to all the visual aspects taking most of the memory and processing overhead. The only time you would need to increase the buffer is when your processor takes too long to decode, compared to the playback rate.

It's actually recommended that you have at least 25% of your hard drive free at all times, correct me if I'm wrong. _________________

Its in bytes? I thought it was in MB. Sorry. Thanks for the correction MaxKiller. And also, thesentence, thank you for that information |

MB is "bytes", thus the mega-"bytes" One MB is 1,048,576 bytes. However, there are 8,388,608 bits in one MB. A megabit would be displayed as Mb while a megabyte would be MB. There are 8 bits in a byte. Sorry if I misinterpreted your post and sounded like an idiot. _________________

MB is not bytes, just like 1,048,576 bytes is not 1 byte. It does not matter in what way, the moment you need to convert, you are not on the same scale anymore. I think you just over-analyzed his reply. |

Hiya all.
I just tried to increase my audio buffer in that file and it made it WORSE!!! So I thought what the h*ll, I'll lower it to 1024 and guess what, it works like a charm!!!!! I even have less gfx stuttering, but all the pops and scratchy sounds are GONE! Don't know if this will help anyone else, but for me it worked. |
