It's late and I'm not going to test this right now, but I will tomorrow. What I seriously think the problem is, is when doing repeated taps on the same button over and over, the controller will not respond to every tap...
So, say you have to hit the button like....
X--X--X--X--X
and you press the button like...
X--X--X--X--X
but for some reason, your 4th hit didn't register, you'll get a miss....
but if you press the button like...
X--X-X-X-X-X
and your 4th hit didn't register... then your 3rd hit was early and your 5th hit (the game reads it as your 4th) is a little late, and then your 6th (which the game sees as your 5th) is on time. This may be what's happening to you, but tomorrow afternoon when I get on DJ Hero again, I'll look at it and see if I can make sense out of it. |

I've also noticed I can tap the note really early and still get the note. The window seems to be pretty stretched and open, but I suppose I understand, noting that the scratching and fader seemed to be the bigger focus of the game. _________________

I've not noticed being unable to hit a section with the correct number of taps.
Idk about hitting too many times as normally i don't. The timing window is definitely weird in this game. It seems like sometimes the timing is really tight, while other times really loose. _________________

I've run into that problem too.
Another example of this is Benassi vs Tiesto on those really fast green taps. If I try hitting all five notes in rhythm, I'll drop one. If I mash the green key as fast as possible with no regard to rhythm, I'll hit that section every time. _________________

I can hit the GGGGG in Elements of Life every time with 5 taps. I just hit them really hard and make sure to fully release. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware fuckup instead of programming. _________________

Continuation of this thread with some extra observations I've had:
1 - this timing window problem is only with the same button repeating.
2 - I've so far only had 1 section I could NOT hit with the proper number of taps, which is the red spam euphoria in groundhog, which I've not focused on much, and have only hit like twice.
3 - I believe this is a software issue, not a hardware issue.
Rockit is where most of my playing around happened. It has 3 times where it throws out 16th note blues for a measure. At first, just sight playing, I sorta spammed the button, and sometimes got them, and sometimes didn't. After counting the notes to ensure I hit them the right number of times, i would often have a note leftover when I was done...
Spaming the button actually did more to make me miss than to hit though! Which is why I think it is the system not the controller. If it were the controller, I think I would get an over-tap as a method of missing in these areas when spamming very fast, and it would be very inconsistant to combo with the proper number of taps. And yet my method of breaking combo while spaming was always a note unplayed dropping off, depending on how fast i spammed often the 6th note would already be dropping off unplayed. And playing the proper number of notes yields VERY consistant results for me now.
So here is what i think it is: When a note is hit, the system puts a sort of delay to how soon that note can be hit again. So when you are pressing slightly too fast for an area, it could ignore a tap in this buffer zone, leaving a note unplayed to match your dropped tap.
Playing extra can compensate for this by adding extra taps to replace the dropped taps. However depending on how fast you are spaming you could drop many more taps than you are compensating for, as you could lose 2 taps on several notes.
What I find works best though is to just make sure you aren't playing too fast. By playing in time with the song, or perhaps with a slight delay, you will get the combo with the proper number of taps. Which I believe is by far the safest, and most reliable way, as there is no way you can guarentee how many taps you will drop, leaving you to either drop more than you were compensating, leaving you with a missed note, or drop less than you expected, leaving you with an over-tap.
Here is a vid in which I describe the problem, illustrate it in game, and explain how and why I think it happens, and how to avoid it in your own gameplay:

They AREN'T broken on wii as far as I've seen
I got the wii version of DJ Hero and I was able to hit fast taps with no problem and the timing window is also a lot looser
but my wii controller had problems and I had to trade it in, and there was only a ps3 in the store and since I have a PS3 I took it.
Result: Can't hit the fast taps and the timing window is much tighter even after calibration _________________

Sounds a lot like the classic "strumming limit" problem in Harmonix guitar games. _________________

I've noticed this on a few songs on hard. It would be something quick like and I'd hit it what I think is one more time, but it really registers as five. I'm not sure about if I just hit it five times though. |
