I just read this and agree wholly with everything it says:

Dear Non-Penn Staters:
"Final points. I have seen a lot of people who are not part of the Penn State community make comments about the Penn State scandal. They think it is ridiculous that students and alumni are pissed off. Let me try to explain. If you clearly read the Grand Jury report, you would know a Penn State GA (Mike McQueary...) witnessed Jerry Sandusky sexually assulting victim 2. Instead of calling the police, he reported it to his supervisor Joe Paterno the next day. Joe Paterno then set up a meeting with his supervisor, Tim Curley. The meeting took place on a Sunday in Joe Paterno's home. Paterno also reported what He Knew to the campus police. Tim Curley and Gary Shultz, then met with Mike McQueary to discuss what he saw. Curley and Shultz never reported the incident further. Their reports to the grand jury were not credible. No where in the report does it say anything about Joe Paterno knowing about the crimes and not doing anything. So why are we mad? We're mad because the media found a scape goat in Joe Paterno. We're mad because they blamed him instead of Mike McQueary, Tim Curley, Gary Shultz, and Jerry Sandusky. We're mad because when you search "penn State scandal", Joe Paterno's picture comes up. We're mad because after 61 years as a Penn State employ, the Board of Trustees fired him over the phone. We're mad because they admit that all the facts are not present yet. We're mad because the school let Tim Curley take a leave, Gary Shultz resign, and Mike McQueary keep his job. This issue is bigger than football; Joe Paterno is bigger than football. He is man that has raised millions of dollars for my school. He is a symbol of the community. I have literally felt awful during all of this. I feel awful for the kids that had to go through something that nobody should endure. I pray for them, and all children that are treated poorly.I feel awful about how people are portraying Penn State, and The Second Mile. I pray for the victims, and hope they find peace. I pray that nothing like this happens again."

so i understand why you and fellow Penn State fans feel this way, but i see it like this...

if any of those guys knew about this allegation at all, they are all equally responsible. i understand that paterno reported what he knew to his superiors but if anything remotely involving child abuse came up, why the hell wouldn't he follow up with it? if any of my friends were accused of anything close to that, i would want to know the truth and see that it was/wasn't true. idk if i'm explaining myself well enough but just reporting something isn't enough when it comes to allegations as serious as those

Without a doubt, the board of trustees should have shown some decency towards the epitome of football coaches and a man who's been with school for over 60 years, but that doesn't mean he didn't have it coming. Let's face it, everyone involved in the scandal should have been fired. You can't just "report" this to your higher ups, nobody in the entire hierarchy contacted the police, they just simply fired Sandusky. I understand why some people are angry but he and everyone else involved allowed Sandusky to get away with sexual abuse, which is inexcusable. He knew what was going on in his locker rooms, which I feel (albeit unfairly) puts him most at fault.

To break away from the Paterno talk, I'm going to the Stanford-Oregon game this weekend. I am giddy with excitement as it will probably be one of the biggest games I will ever get to go to. I'm actually expecting Stanford to lose so I don't feel bad (big Stanford fan), but I really hope its a good game.

Awesome sauce! Hope you have a great time and that the game is an exciting one. (I don't think I've physically been to a Stanford game since the 2000 Rose Bowl. Such a homebody fan am I.) I'm in similar "rooting for the Cardinal, but halfway expecting they're going to lose" straits myself - would love to see them win out, but it's not like they've exhibited crushing dominance to make me assume an easy victory is at hand. But oh well - nothing to do but think good thoughts and hope for the best, eh?

Boise loses, and Stanford is on the ropes. This could be a great day...

And Bama is back in the top 3. For God's sake, Oklahoma State better win out. There is no way in Hell I'm going to watch an LSU-Bama championship; that game bored me then, and it would bore me now. Usually, I truly enjoy watching low-scoring games ruled by strong defenses, but in that game, it wasn't so much that the defenses were strong as the QBs were absolute garbage. If it were great QBs put under pressure by stellar defenses, that'd be one thing, but watching two great defenses obliterate cardboard offenses gets to be boring after a while.

I would think the top 6 is now something like this:
1. LSU
2. Oklahoma State
3. Alabama
4. Oregon
5. Oklahoma
6. Arkansas

If that is the top 6 as I think it will be, then 4 of the top 6 still have to play each other(LSU vs. Arkansas, Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State). We've also had both Alabama and Oregon already play LSU. If LSU, Alabama, Oregon, and Oklahoma all won out(meaning OKST loses), I wonder who would play LSU in the title game? Alabama and Oregon already played LSU, and lost. Oklahoma hasn't played them, but probably wouldn't leap Alabama or Oregon. Would Oregon pass Alabama if both won out, since Oregon would have an extra game and a conference title? I could have fun thinking up scenarios for this. Madness would ensue if Oklahoma won out.

I hope it'd be Oregon honestly.

I think they'd put up a better fight against LSU. I mean they were what, two key mistakes by a freshman away from winning the week 1 game? I'd like to see them play again, at least it'd be entertaining unlike Bama/LSU.

All that has to happen is Alabama lose a game, Arkansas beat LSU, Oregon lose to USC, OSU beat Oklahoma, and then Arkansas is in the title game. It's pretty much guaranteed at this point.

Right?

Well, Arkansas and LSU play last week of the season. If Arkansas does manage to win, that might get them into the SEC Championship game (I assume this would be another situation with a BCS ranking tiebreaker), and if they win that then they might make the BCS championship. I really don't see them beating LSU though. Besides, I don't see Alabama losing to Georgia Southern or Auburn, so that would probably keep them ranked higher than Arkansas, who they clobbered earlier in the year.
