Oh boy, been waiting for this to show up.
Group 1:
Berzerk - Obvious in this group. So much dead air.
California King Bed - Has a solo, but it's so damn slow.
Bangarang - Fast gallops and that off beat quiet part make this a *little* harder than CKB.
45 - Strumming.
Club Foot - Strumming. IMO this and 45 should be right next to each other in the final list. If you can do 45, you can do Club Foot.
Been Away Too Long - Chords, and the solo/bridge part with the trips is a pain.
Bones Exposed - Gah, this song is a pain. Stupid breakdown parts with the open notes, and there's a solo for good measure.
Group 2:
Counting Stars - lolez. Literally one pattern for the whole song. Except the intro which is completely negligible.
Here's to Never Growing Up - This one has two patterns for the whole song. Still piss easy, but a little harder than CS.
Everbody Talks - The ending is the only hard part. Still much harder overall then HTNGU.
Demons - This song takes some time to get used to. Very easy to get your rows jumbled here.
Grounds for Divorce - Grace notes, that HOPO chain that shows up twice in the chorus. Still really easy.
Gold On the Ceiling - Hooks in the chorus. Intro is incredibly annoying as well.
Girls - This song's outro does not need to be as long as it is. Choke city. I didn't have much trouble with this (personally think GotC is harder), but I can see where people would struggle with this song.
Group 3:
Lies - Easy.
Ho Hey - Chords. Slow chords, though.
Little Monster - Swing beat, some random fills here and there. Bridge is also kind of a pain. Not that hard.
I Will Wait - CHORDS. This shouldn't be as hard as it is.
King for a Day - Breakdown/solo thing is pretty hard.
Lazaretto - Fuck that solo.
Keep On Swinging - Solo is the hardest section in the game.
Group 4:
My Songs Know What You Did In the Dark (Light Em Up) - Easiest song in the game.
Lived a Lie - Second easiest song in the game.
Now - Slide riff (verses) takes a bit to learn.
Mountain Sound - Chords. Basically a faster Ho Hey.
Nuclear Family - Stupid gallops everywhere, solo is a thing, I guess.
Mind Your Manners - I hate the chords in this song. Solo is also pretty hard.
Love Bites (So Do I) - Lol obvious.
Group 5:
R U Mine - Slow HOPOs. Occasionally a fast hook, and the trill.
The Rock Show - Fast, but no difficult patterns. Chords in the chorus are a little tricky.
The Anthem - Chorus chords, and that riff in verse 2.
The Kill - Awkward intro, awkward bridge, very chokeable. Don't forget that little strumming burst at the end.
Paint It Black - Random. Fuck the hardest part being right at the end.
Shadow Moses - Breakdowns. Especially the first one with the strumming going transitioning into it.
Sundial - Solo is really hard.
Group 6:
When You Were Young - Easy.
Victory Over the Sun - Chords in the chorus. Not that hard since it's pretty slow.
Won't Get Fooled Again - Random, but nothing hard.
Waking Up in Vegas - Fuck that chorus. Once you learn to shift to 2nd position, this isn't that hard. Still pretty damn annoying.
Tragedy + Time - THOSE CHORDS. Right at the very. Fucking. End.
Wastelands - Swing beat makes this deceptively hard.
Tie Your Mother Down - Hardest song in the game.
All these groups have some pretty tight rankings. All those I'm not 100% about are in red. _________________

Posting so I can keep this in my feed. Once I replay all the on disc songs I'll help pitching in, but it's been so long that I can't remember half of the charts, especially since most songs I played 1-2 times. _________________

Guys, if you haven't submitted a your lists yet please do so ASAP. It's been over a week and I have five submissions so far... including myself. Not the best set of data to work with... (although it is 5/7 people with a FGFC on SH :p)
Seriously I'd like to move on to phase 2 and I'd like a few more lists if anyone can help! _________________

This is not a thing anymore ? Go to phase 2 please.
Also for a faster breakdown, my idea would be to start off with a somewhat ordered list, someone doing the order of all the 42 songs roughly, and that order (instead of alphabetical) makes the groups, and then you can easily iterate on those. Just my 2 cents. _________________

Actually, you'd be causing a lot of really difficult questions that way. You'd engineer the groups to have songs with similar difficulty levels due to very different sections, which is usually when voting slows to a crawl because we need to break a tie.
If you wanted the groups to be non-arbitrary, you'd want the rankings in each group to be super obvious (such as Ho Hey, Mind Your Manners, Love Bites). Then, we would virtually never have to spend time and energy correcting the order of the initial groups.
We'd need to run one question per song in the game anyway (except for the very last one to be placed). To make the process more efficient, you want to ask as few other questions as possible. Having groups at the start is a necessary evil, but if the voting on the groups is nearly unanimous, we could go straight to normal questions. |

Was waiting until I was a bit closer to the FGFC to post here, but I'm pretty confident in my rankings now.
Group 1
Berzerk
California King Bed
45 - I'm also of the opinion that this and Club Foot should be next to each other in the final ranking
Club Foot
Bangarang - Gets pushed up a lot by the part you can't hear
Been Away Too Long
Bones Exposed
Group 2
Counting Stars
Grounds for Divorce
Demons
Everybody Talks
Here's To Never Growing Up - Chord changes are an underrated kind of hard
Gold on the Ceiling
Girls
Group 3
Lies
Ho Hey
Little Monster
King For A Day
Lazaretto
Keep On Swinging
I Will Wait - I realize this will be my least popular opinion, but I'll fight for it. I got KoS randomly first try of the day; grinded this one for hours. I hate Mumford & Sons
Group 4
My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark
Lived A Lie
Mountain Sound
Now
Nuclear Family
Mind Your Manners
Love Bites (So Do I)
Group 5
R U Mine
The Rock Show
Paint It Black
The Kill
The Anthem - chord changes are underrated hard
Shadow Moses
Sundial
Group 6
When You Were Young
Victory Over the Sun
Waking Up In Vegas
Won't Get Fooled Again
Wastelands
Tragedy + Time

Thank you for the lists everyone! We had some clear-cut consensuses on some songs, whereas others were near impossible to place! That's where phase 2 comes in! With a few more votes we can sort out the groups and get voting on the final breakdown.
PS: The songs up for debate had at least 2 dissenting opinions on where they should be ranked within the groups. Everything else was either unanimous or had one outlier vote (usually Rob XD) _________________
