guitar hero skills help?

im wondering if you guys that play DDR and guitar hero find that if your good at guitar hero you have kind og an edge in DDR. becuase i used to remeber attempting DDR at arcades and failing miserably. but ive gotton really good(in my opinion) at guitar hero and yester i went over a friends and played DDR. i wasent half bad. did better than him and he owns the game. so i think maybe because im just used to rythm games now that it comes easier? any one else notice this?

Um I like to think I'm good at GH (check my scores [preferably '80s] and decide for yourself if you'd like) but when I tried DDR, I failed so bad the song ended in under 30 seconds; it reminded me when I was first learning how to play GH, except without the feeling that I could actually learn how to play it

Yeah, completely different skill sets imo...I can pass some songs but I'm not any more proficient because of my experience with rhythm games.

I think both games use the same part of your brain to decode the instructions on the screen, so that may have something to do with it.

The scrolling direction always fucks with me. I look towards the middle of the screen to see notes to give myself enough time to hit them, and when They're going up instead of down, I'm all mindfucked.

The reason you did so much better when you went to your friend's house was that DDR is more difficult in the arcade. It generally takes more energy to stomp on the pad, and it also seems to be harder, believe it or not, to hit the arrow you actually want in the arcade. At least I find it harder. I haven't played DDR in awhile but this is as I remember it.

I find the experience quite the opposite. I use to be good at DDR and suck at GH. Now that my GH has gone up, I suck at DDR. Or maybe I don't have enough energy..

But I think Matt is right with the same brain decoding the notes/arrows/etc. In general with music simulation games (djmax, ddr, gh, etc), it seems to be a lot easier to play since the point is to hit the notes - just different ways of doing so that's the tricky part.

It's definitely a connection. I had been playing Stepmania(DDR emulator on keyboard) and got pretty good at it, and when I tried Guitar Hero I learned it quickly. And when I tried playing GH with the Dual Shock(some weeks after playing with the guiater), I had no problem getting 95%+ on medium songs the very first times I tried it.

If the game is similar, you're going to be better at it than someone starting from scratch since you're used to timing and will most likely only need to learn the new controls.

I played ITG2 for a year now (Arcade + At home using KB), first time I tried GH at my dad's house I tried it on Medium difficulty, got a 87% and now today I bought it, I'm already up to Hard and almost passed Expert.

I was good at DDR before I had GH, so I agree that they are different.

I have always been good at ddr. I do heavy. I think gh might help with rhytem but thats it.

guitar hero seems a lot easier than DDR. How on earth can you see the arrows coming at you so fast??

I'm pretty good at DDR, can pass all 10 footers (never tried ITG but would like to

) but I caught onto GH pretty quick. Didn't take me long to get to expert but I doubt DDR helped it might just be you have a thing for rhythm games.

going from ddr to guitar hero was fairly simple, and going from guitar freaks to guitar hero was even easier :P
