I learned the breakdown part too, now all I need to work on is moving my hand back up the neck when it's time to repeat the chorus, I suck at jumping around. (and then theres an entire solo to learn) |

I listened to all of the songs now, and I have to say, it isn't as great as I was expecting (I don't think that would have been possible, it was hyped up so much), but if I think back, I remember it took me a while to get into any of their songs.
A Little Piece of Heaven is by far the best song on the album.
It gets better every time I listen to it. That song has EVERYTHING.
There is a noticeable lack of faster songs compared to COE, so these will take a bit longer to get into, but the album as a whole is still awesome. _________________

Wow...I just finished listening to the Avenged Sevenfold the CD. It's not as good as I expected, but it definately still is good. I love Scream. I think that's the best song, or Critical Acclaim. I wish they would have a few fast songs. Everything seems slow. I would've thought it would have been like City of Evil with half slow and half fast songs. And I don't really get Dear God. I wouldn't thought that Avenged Sevenfold could come up with a better closing song than that.
Now I'm saying why.....
I think our their previous CDs Avenged Sevenfold have focused on guitar. Now I think they really did sell out because they're total focus is vocals. They took out all their guitar riffs. In City of Evil, they came up with a guitar riff to link everything. Nothing like that on their new CD. It's all vocals and solos. I knew this was going to be the case after hearing Critical Acclaim. (at least I thought it was) And syn doesn't have any of his truly great solos on this CD. I'm still waiting for a solo to top Second Heartbeat, and I'm beginning to think there never will be one.
And in A Little Piece of Heaven, I didn't get that song to much. It had no focus. When I heard that it just seemed like a jam session with an occastra thrown in and Avenged Sevenfold just doing whatever they feel like in the background.

I'm feeling pretty much the same way... Some of the songs have the makings of being great, but lack the killer drums/guitar that is normally SOOO evident with A7X. One of the biggest things that drew me to them was the "dual" guitars and the ability to have such great harmonies... I'm a HUGE classical music fan, so COE & WTF were right up my alley on some of the songs... but this new cd... much different.

yeah i got around the same feelings towards this album, lost is my favorite song in this album, i feel it shows the most emotion and best use of guitars, however most of the solos in the album i were dissapointed to hear, most of them just sounded like syn jamming not trying to go along with the song at all. Critical Acclaim was ok i liked it, it coulda been better but still good. Almost Easy, a really good song... except for the worst solo syn has ever thought of. Scream is a really catchy song im sure in time ill grow to like it more. Afterlife was so so i like the intro but after that the main riff didnt seem to go with the intro or vice versa. Gunslinger was one of the 2 songs on this album that i really liked and actually sounded like a solo that syn thought about of not just said whatever to. Unbound (The Wild Ride) coulda been the burn it down of this album had they based it around guitar not vocals and piano. My feelings are still out there when concerning Brompton Cocktail. I was not as psyched about A little piece of heaven as much as others, yet another song ill probably learn to like the more i listen to it. Dear God is ok, they definately should have came up with a better ending song tho, M.I.A. was such a kickass ending to COE. _________________

i agree with you about piece of heaven being the best. the rev wrote the whole thing. i finished downloading pinkly smooth's CD and it is amazing, if you liked a little piece of heaven you should give them a try. i like "pixel and nasal" and "nosferatu does a hefty dance" off of unfortunate snort, which is their only album, at least that i know of. |

Well, I've listened through the album 6-7 times now, and I decided I like it. It was not what I wanted at all, nor what I expected, but it was different in a good way. I like all the songs, with my favorite being either Afterlife or Brompton Cocktail and my least favorite being Unbound and Dear God. Dear God isn't a bad song, but I was expecting something way more awesome as the last song. ALPOH is one of the weirdest songs I've ever heard (it is about necrophilia, murder, etc so that's expected) but it definitely grew on me. Gunslinger is definitely cool, as is Lost. I would have loved some more WtF style songs, but I do like this album overall. It's a nice change of pace in my library.
Completely off-topic, but I'm disappointed that A7X didn't end up in GH3. The two releases coincide, so if I were A7X I would have worked pretty hard to get one of my new songs into GH3 as a marketing thing, but there's nothing to do about it now except hope for some A7X DLC. |

I've only heard bits and piece of the album, but I did not like what I heard at all. Honestly, though, I think the last album was crap, too, so I wasn't expecting much. _________________

When the notes come by, play them on the guitar. Don''t fail by the end of the song. | |
