|
|
I'm currently on Lou on expert and have always been a good guitar hero player (5 starred lots of expert songs) but the one thing that keeps me from getting better at the game makes me very angry.
What I am talking about is the stretch effect (where after playing for a few minutes any object you look at plays an optical illusion with your eyes and it looks as if it is stretching like silly putty), dizziness, motion sickness.. or whatever you wanna call it. Most of my friends that play the game also experience this so it is quite normal.
I was just wondering if any eye exercises.../ any motion sickness medicine..../ or any method to lessen the severity of this will help.
I often choose not to play one of the funnest games iv'e ever purchased for this sole reason. I actually think to myself (Is it worth getting a headache or lightheaded to play this today) which is retarded imo.. and i often hate the fact that this is the only reason I can't practice anything and the only reason this keeps me from FC'ing solo's. (once the stretch happens if effects gameplay, at least for me)
Any help is appreciated or just feel free to relate to this.. the more people that experience this the better i will feel lol. |

Take a break between songs. Look at something far away, focus on it for a bit. |

I used to notice this a lot with GH2. After a song I'd look away from the TV and be like "OMG ACID FLASHBACK!" That is until I realized that this is caused because while your playing the game your eyes are constantly moving down to look at the notes as they fly by the circles on the bottom of the screen. Its just like when your driving a car and not looking far enough ahead, you then stop but feel like your still moving (god I hate that feeling).
Anyway, for one reason or another I haven't noticed this as much with GH3. Not sure if this will work for you or not, but give it a shot. Instead of following all of the notes to the bottom of the screen, try to keep your eyes somewhere in the middle of the fretboard and use your periferal vision and sense of rythm to hit the notes as they go by.
Try it out and let me know how it goes. _________________

yeah that's what i do i never follow them all the way down i hover around the middle all the time, like i said for some people the problem is inevitable, i was just wondering if people had ways to lessen the extent of it.

I noticed this also when I first started playing, but I didn't really experience anything similar to motion sickness.
Either way I got used to it so I don't really notice anymore. Maybe you'll grow out of it. |

I was convinced that my TV was busted for a while untill I looked around the room and it was melting. Ahh good times
Doesn't seem to happen so much with GH3 for me though. _________________

If you've got those kinds of problems, be careful. I sense a seizure or something nasty coming up. Motion sickness is something you gotta go and just fight against; maybe you're just not used to flashing lights and other things like that..
Try some Maalox and see if that makes you feel less queasy. I've personally never had these problems but my cousin always can't play for more than 30 minutes or he turns green, (or he is close to throwing up) so we just give him a spoon full of maalox and he's just fine.
Take breaks too. Don't go for those long sessions. _________________

That sounds strange, I've never ever had a problem like that before. Over the weekend, I spent almost an entire day playing and I went through hard mode (every song) and never got this problem. Maybe (and this is for everyone) you are too close to the TV, stay a little further away like maybe 10 or 15 ft away. Actually I just remembered, if I am really tired sometimes I will get very zoned into the TV, but no stretching or motion sickness. |

I don't get motion sickness while playing GH3, but when I was younger, I couldn't handle airplane landings and I always threw up.
There are these acupressure wristbands that have a bump you put on the inside of your wrists that supposedly help with motion sickness |

are you kidding me? This is exactly WHY I play guitar hero. It's like a free acid trip every time. You can't beat that.
If you think Guitar Hero is bad... try this program: http://amsterdam1.plunder.com/384/lsdspiral.zip

I used to experience the "HOLY @#*$ THE ROOM IS MOVING!" thing all the time, although the more often I play, the less it happens. I haven't noticed it at all with GH3. I've never gotten motion sickness from it, though. _________________

EDIT: I don't have the problem EvilMunky explained as I've always looked at the notes on the fretboard very high up, but here's another closely related thing which may apply to many:
As a user of contact lenses, the whole "notes are blurry" thing happens to me as the eyes gradually dry out. I've come up with two solutions, but a combination of the two work best.
1) Blink. Remember to blink.
2) Look away at repetitive parts that you know from memory. I look at the window blinds.
Okay okay, these aren't solutions, but as far as my eyes go, it does help a lot in delaying the speed at which the "blurry notes" problem arrives. Not sure if this will apply to your case or not, but if it does, cheers! _________________
