|
|
I'm slowly learning Cliffs of Dover on real guitar. My brother has a acoustic, one has a neck where the 12th fret is at the body, and another who touches the body at 14th fret. He gets an electric this year so it will be easier to reach f.e. the 20th.
Anyways, I'm trying to do the reverse-thunderhorse section.
It's like this:
-15---15---15----15----15----
----19-----------------------17
----------19----------17-------
----------------19--------------
---------------------------------
---------------------------------
If anyone here can do it, how is it possible?? |

This isn't a beginners song, so if you're just learning guitar it's REALLY not recommended to try this.
Otherwise, just use your index on the G on the E string (15th fret), while alternating your middle on the 17th fret of the B, G and D strings, with the ring finger alternating between the 19th fret of the B, G and D strings. _________________

This section is also fingerpicked. I use my Index for the E and my thumb for everything else _________________

Johnson hybrid picks it: he holds his pick with his pointer and thumb to hit the descending pedal tones, and then hits the base tone on the E with his middle finger. As others have said, not a beginning technique. _________________

Really, the unicorn avatar is the best thing to ever happen to this forum. |

Really? I watched a vid of him playing it, and I didn't notice that. I've got an Ok speed down with a pick, but fingerpicking will make it a lot easier. And this is definately not a beginner song btw, there are much harder parts still. _________________

Yeh at this bit I tuck my pick into the palm of my hand and use my thumb and index finger to finger it. On the fretboard I always have my index finger on the 15th fret on the e string and use my ring finger on the 19th frets and my middle finger on the 17th frets. Although this bit is really hard to do fluently, and Cliffs of Dover is a hard song to play, especially the solo at the end although most people improvise that bit. _________________

If you watch Patrik Lindgren play it (here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=_5gJJ7K1PJg), it looks like he flatpicks most of it, but may be hybrid picking that section of it. Fantastic performance, and usually pretty solid shots of his hands, if you need an idea of how to play it. _________________

1) You're using numbers in place of words.
2) You're spelling at the second grade level.
3) You're posting in CAPS.
4) This post is in the wrong place, and should have been in Software.
Conclusion: Custom songs are not your "cup of tea", and I'd suggest undertaking a much more simpler hobby. Perhaps tree watching. |

Seems like the easiest way to do it imo. |

Agreed, I play it the same way (though not nearly as well as EJ or that guy ) _________________

Not full flefged finger picking, but I fingerpick all of it. As was stated earlier Johnson hybrid picks it, so he uses a pick on everything except the E _________________

Yea, I'm learning this song right now and that's by far the hardest part. Just practice it over and over until it becomes second nature. Personally, I have trouble hybrid picking, so I just play it regular and it works for me. |

Definitely not a song you wanna start learning on an acoustic, lol. But everyone here is right - it's hybrid picked. Frankly I think that's the easy part of the solos in that song. I have trouble with all the long runs and mess up (6:55) the slides in the chorus sometimes. But I'm workin on it, it's quite possibly my favorite instrumental [well probably after Orion]. _________________

this may sound rediculous, but if i was to try it, i'd probably end up just using both my index fingers to tap it lmao, might sound weird with the pull offs to 0 but what wrong with spicing up how you play your version of a cover?
EDIT: nevermind, it sounds horrid xD |
