Activision and Neversoft hit with lay-offs, NS done with GH

As we all saw in the GH6/DJH2 thread, Activision is going full-speed ahead with cutting costs. They already announced that they are dropping PS2 support and only releasing a few "Hero" titles per year.

Now they announced that they will be laying off hundreds of employees across companies like Radical, Luxoflux and Neversoft.

I actually talked to a laid-off employee from Neversoft today and the word they used to describe the lay-offs was "most of Neversoft".

It's always a terrible thing to hear about lay-offs, but it always feels so much worse when it's a company that you support and (in my case) work with on an almost daily basis.

I also address an issue that Viacom is having with Harmonix is that article above.

EDIT: Also turns out that Guitar Hero 6 will be the final GH game developed by Neversoft. The reins will be turned over full-time to Vicarious Visions

It's always sad when a company you have close ties with are starting to cut positions. Harmonix did this last year, and Alakaiser got the chop, so who knows who could be affected by this? Thrice? DarkFoxMrd? VANCE?! THE BUTT OF ALL OUR GH JOKES?!

All kidding aside, I hope Neversoft holds on to the right people and not become a less effective development team due to these layoffs.

I'm not surprised if the layoffs are all happening from the millions of people that ATVI hired to pump out Guitar Hero games (I mean seriously, you needed to create a CEO spot)- I seriously think Activision overestimated how big it could grow and then watched it partially collapse.

Hope the people laid off get some new homes.
