Bump again, with the final movie now out in theaters. I saw the midnight premiere (double feature with part 1, actually) and it was amazing. Truly a fitting ending to the series, they did a great job. I hate to see the bashing of the series in the rant thread from people who haven't read the books or seen all the movies, but maybe we can discuss it here. Anyway, have fun this weekend, enjoy the end of an era!

Bump for the new movie coming out this week. Personally, I'm rewatching all the first six movies with my girlfriend, who has never read/watched any of the Harry Potter books/movies, and she needs to catch up in order to watch the premiere with her friend. I'm seeing it later on Friday with a big group of family/friends, should be fun.

Well, in light of the sixth movie's recent release, I've decided to reread the books. (perhaps only the 6th and 7th books, to compare to the movie and prepare for the next two) For the last few years, reading the Harry Potter series has been one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life, perhaps even surpassing that of GH/SH... so feel free to discuss Harry Potter here- the books, movies... any random theories or plot points, whatever. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's had a meaningful experience through these books.

When I was in 6th grade, I read all the harry potter books like, 15 times each, I was obsessed with them. Definatly the greatest books ever, imo.

I'm re-reading them right now. I'm on the 4th which is one of my favorites definitely. I remember those last 7 or so chapters (the Third Task and on...) being incredible.

I still think the 3rd book is my favorite. Been a fan of the series since before the 5th book came out, and the 3rd book has always been my favorite, dunno why.
The 6th book is pretty great, too.
I don't remember the 7th book at all though .-.

I really like the extreme complexity of the plot while they complexity of the actual reading is low. You can think about the entire picture while reading, instead of having to read each sentence with the utmost concentration to figure out what it means.
6th and 7th books are the best because of how they have the most complex plots.

Like honestly, the books were written by a literary genius. Harry isn't a perfect person by any means and in fact causes as many problems as he solves. I just love that about him.

The plot itself is amazing and enveloping, with the plot maturing as Harry does. I would read the books till no end and had an amazing time doing so.

It's my favorite book series so far, only MAYBE comparable to me is Eragon.

Well I have read all of the books, and while they were decent (for a children/teen series) I think it's a bit of a stretch to call them the GREATEST BOOKS EVAR ZOMG. I mean seriously, you really can't compare the complexity in the HP series to that of say A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man or something that. However, that is a completely unfair comparison as Portrait itself may actually be the greatest book ever (Besides Lolita of course).

That being said, I really do like the books, and all in all it is a very fun series. I just wish that the movies (namely the more recent ones) would do the books a little more justice. I know it's difficult to fit a ~600 page book into a two and a half hour time limit, but leaving out vital plot points seems like a mistake.
I'll give the sixth movie some credit though, it was a fair movie. But I guess when you've read the book you have more of a tendency to notice when things are missing (or when they are added...). Hopefully the seventh movie (and eighth, if the really are making it a two part movie) will fill in the gaps and bring the story to a satisfying close.

The newer books I thought were pretty cool. Who could forget the famed spoiler video on Youtube where that dude goes "SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE!" (i'm tinying that in case someone here has not read the sixth book.) I always get laughs out of that.

And I haven't seen Half-Blood Prince yet. Please raise your hand if you haven't, either, so I know i'm not alone.

I've read the series AT LEAST 10 or 15 times. I've lost count. I love the series so much, it has a special shelf on my bookshelf.
