Quote:
Nearly 9 in 10 women (88 percent) say they'd rather chat up someone who owns the latest fuel-efficient car versus the latest sports car.

They're lying to sound good, clearly.

Quote:
Eighty percent of American car buyers would find someone with the latest fuel-efficient car more interesting to talk to at a party than someone with the latest sports car.

This doesn't make sense at all. The two are totally unrelated.

The problem with hybrid cars is that they actually cost more money in the long run than normal cars do. 3000 dollars extra at the start plus 3000 dollars for a battery replacement when necessary. Until gas costs 10 dollars a gallon, they won't win out.

Hydrogen fueling is where we need to make our decent. Seriously. Current production is limited to like 100 a year, though, and only available in southern california. The people that buy them get their own fuel cell rechargers for the cars AND their houses. Hydrogen is a virtually unlimited resource, it just needs to find its way into every gas station in America.

I would just like to say I belong to the 12% of women who prefer a guy to have a sports car. I call BS on the study!

So girls today still are supposedly all about guys who compensate by buying the latest and greatest vehicle... what a surprise.

What about the percent of girls that don't give a crap what car a guy drives? <_< I mean, geez, if he HAS a car, he's doing better than some, believe me.

Well coming from someone who has had conversations with girls about both kinds of cars, I've got say, the conversation involving sports cars lasted a hell of a lot longer than the conversation about the hybrid car.

Though, the girl talking about the sports car knew more about cars in general... Still, from my point of view, the only way the conversation about the hybrid car is going to continue is if the topic changes from hybrid car to the environment which will inevitably end in a topic about gas prices (like most of my conversations!)

I agree w/ Stephanie -- I have to call BS, too.

Perhaps they did get those results, but it all depends on how you ask the question. I might answer similarly if it was something along the lines of, "Would you rather talk to a guy who drives a Honda Civic or a guy who drives a Porche?" I would pick the guy driving the Civic because my assumption would be that most guys who would buy a Porche are probably too big a jackass for my taste.

If it was phrased as being about choosing the environmentally conscious guy over someone else, I'd likely instead go with the latter, because I tend to find things like spending a whole lot of energy "going green," and in particular the ones who want to talk about it all the time, a big turn-off. I find it self-congratulatory and arrogant, much like most of the stuff going on in the environmental movement. Do the right thing, but don't act like you need a pat on the back for it...

Let's not forget the percent of people who prefer if the person is so green they don't have a car at all!

Heh, I think the idea is to not use a lot of energy... couldn't resist

While my last post was mostly in jest, the results aren't really that surprising being that hybrids and other fuel efficient vehicles are popular right now. There's always going to be woo-ing over whatever is popular. I just wish using common sense were coupled with the growing popularity of the modern-day environmental movement. While the message the movement sends is in good faith and for good cause, the reason you see it everywhere in the media is because corporations have latched onto it as a means of making money.

Common sense environmentalism is not rushing to buy a bunch of new "green" stuff. That's generally wasteful. It's finding ways to be more efficient with what you already have. When something actually needs replacement (say a burnt out lightbulb), then it becomes a good time to invest in the environmentally-friendly technologies that have proven themselves. This is especially true if you've saved some extra money by being more energy efficient in the meanwhile.

lol

if you ask me, I'd prefer to have a sports car simply because it looks nice, but the day that any car maker comes out with a hybrid convertabile will be like a 2nd christmas.

If you carry on to the Challenge X website you get this little gen of a statistic:

Challenge X wrote:
More than seven in 10 (73 percent) car buyers say if there were a reality TV show like “Project Runway” that was not about fashion design, but instead about designing the best-looking fuel-efficient and emissions-free car, they’d definitely watch.

Who on earth did they interview?

If Project Runway were instead a spin-off of Mythbusters, would you be more likely to watch it? It's more interesting to see how new stuff gets engineered than how old stuff (modeling) gets rehashed.

I'm gonna buy a Equinox and a Ferrari, so there's no way a girl won't notice MY car.
