With GH:WT and RB2 out, do you think NS must release more DLC to keep the players?
We've gotten some good DLC for GH3, but a month goes between each pack of 3 songs. Death Magnetic was the first full-album we got, it is unknown if we're getting more albums.
On RB, you can download every track individually, on GH you have to buy the whole album. RB gets new DLC every week, GH every month (usually, still only 3 songs).
I'm a GH-fan, I will be getting GH:WT, but the RB2 setlist got loads of known songs plus the ability to play RB-DLC on RB2. On GH:WT we only know for sure, so far, that you can play Death Magnetic on both games.
People want to choose for themselves, be able to download the songs they want, without being forced to buy 2, or 10, more. You can't buy single tracks from the track packs either.
On tuesday Megadeth's album Peace Sells... but Who's Buying will be out for RB, one of the huge bands that definately will attrack attention and downloads.
So, will GH-series be able to keep up with RB at this pace, or will they lose players to RB because of the DLC? When it comes to the technical aspect of it, both games are good, most players don't think of it as something important. Both games got guitar, bass, drums and vocal, it's really the same thing. I'm guessing most people prefer which ever game they bought first. Since RB was first out with a full band, it is possible they got themselves some fans for life. _________________

I'm pretty sure that NS already announced they would have DLC as often or more often than RB2. but don't quote me on that. |

they havent announced much in terms of how often they will have it, but I don't think they need to have weekly dlc but maybe more often than they had when GH3 came out.. |

No they don't is the simple answer, with the amount of spin off games they can afford to be rather more lax with the amount of DLC they release, especially with popular bands like Aerosmith and Metallica. However I would hope they certainly increase their output of DLC a bit. _________________

they dont have to if they come out with a lot of discs. i have purchased and will continue to purchase all of the gh and rb discs however i only buy the rb dlc if its something i really want and thats it. i have bought all of the guitar hero dlc but only because i got sucked into the dlc rankings.
bottom line i feel obligated to purchase discs but i rarely buy dlc and i feel a lot of people dont have enough money to buy all of the dlc but they will some how scrape together enough money to get the discs. |

tbh, RB definitely has MORE dlc but I think gh's quality is much higher, there are so many packs in RB that are just very plain and not fun at all. quality > quantity, especially in this case. and lately GH has pumped out some insanely high quality charts. _________________

If Neversoft continues to put out amazing DLC packs, even once a month, I really see no trouble for them in the future. |

Yeah, I think we definitely need to see some more DLC if Neversoft really wants do dominate the music game industry. I think there's a quality/quantity rift between the two companies; Rock Band 2's biggest asset is the hundreds of songs available, and Guitar Hero: World Tour is more about new features, like the Song Creator, open notes, and the touch strip on the new guitar. What I think needs to happen is a reverse; that is, Neversoft starts to focus on more songs while Harmonix tries to add as much as possible to the gameplay itself. Of course, we don't know how popular the new features in World Tour will be...
The point, that the companies should shift their focuses eventually to include both quality and quantity. (Note: this isn't to say that Rock Band's gameplay sucks, or that Neversoft's DLC isn't great. It's just to say that they have their pros and cons over each other.) |

I hope they step up GH DLC
They need to do that if they want to have a chance to be the better "full band" game.
Not to mention they need to make it a choice to download individual songs, and NOT force people to buy a whole pack of songs.
RB pretty much set this standard, and GH should at least follow that one if they want to be competitive.
If they force people to buy full packs of songs, that is pretty arrogant on their part (probably Activisions). Not to mention greedy.
While true that most people here would prefer the high quality releases (like as of lately) less frequently.
The general public wants a variety of choices.
They should see this, and realize this, and put out more frequent releases, AND let people pick and choice parts of a release "pack" of songs. _________________

What they should do is not have DLC, and instead put all of the songs on the game, such as the Morello, Slash, and Lou battles because they forget that not all GH players can have DLC. _________________

...what?
Seriously. I tried writing a measured, logical response to this but I just couldn't. Your post defies rationality on so many levels, I don't know where to begin. _________________
