so yeah it sucks sometimes but you'll definitely miss home. It's a good thing.

I get the feeling after going to England, I'd more than likely not want to return home. Kind of like getting off the plane after being at Disney World for a week. But the grass is always greener, etc.

On a side note, I think a week is the time it takes to get acclimated to a new location. If I go on vacation for three or four days it's not really a big deal. If I go away for a week, when i get home, everything feels so....weird. I can't explain it, it's just weird. Although I will say after spending a week in the south, coming back to the north did feel good after the initial "whoa I'm home" factor.

I think the biggest part of my homesickness was missing my family/friends/boyfriend etc. If I could take a group of people and go anywhere, I probably wouldn't get terribly homesick for America as long as I had those people with me the whole time. But then again I don't have an angsty hate-my-family thing that a lot of HS/college kids have, so that type of homesickness didn't seem to bother as many others.

But yeah, I was actually pretty depressed after 2 or 3 months of being away from it all, after the newness of it wore off. There are some things about foreign countries that are so drastically different that you'd probably miss America more than you realize Pieman (the people are not one of those things... people over there are so polite by comparison to the states, it really was culture shock coming back, I forgot people could be so horrible and rude). I think the thing I missed the most was better food and free refills and Dr. Pepper.

I love how people from other countries are all like "I wanna go to England", while everyone here is like "fuck this place, I'm moving to Canada/Australia/anywhere that's not here". The grass is always greener, indeed.

To be fair it's probably fine if you just come here for a short while. I'm sure most people would say the same about where they come from, though.

I'm sure some people would think "OOOO PRETTY SNOW CANADA IS SO NICE IN THE WINTER."

Really it's just frozen white bullshit I have to walk through and shovel 4-5 months a year. On the plus side, we haven't even really gotten much yet this year! Hooray for global warming!

Hence why she said she missed American food when she went to England? Or I have it the wrong way round.
Either way, a proper Cornish pasty will kick the arse out of any other food on the planet. When done properly....perfection.

OT...I haven't seen a bit of frost yet, let alone snow! I like the cold! Honestly its still so warm and sunny here my nose is peeling and I'm getting sunburn!
Slight exaggeration there, but it is still very warm

I feel you bro. I don't think we've had negative temperatures at all this winter, at least between 8am and midnight. Not complaining, natch, but yeah.

Not exactly surprising since we're practically neighbours

Serious advice now: No-one likes indecision in their work, so find what you like that you're even remotely good at, and stick with it. Don't flit from one thing to another, because that just smacks of a large lack of determination and drive. And people don't like you for that, and won't remember you for it. I mean, I get that you have a plucky spirit and a willingness to try new things, but there's a limit, man.
I might knock it down to just Thursday and Friday.

We had some frost over this way this morning, but that aside it's just been a little wet.

Hoarders is such a damn depressing show. My parents are watching it now... How people can have their houses absolutely FULL of useless shit and not want to get rid of any of it is completely beyond me.

I don't think it has dipped below 0 at all since january/february.
I mean I know my dad said it was possible it would be a warm winter but if it doesn't go below 0 before NYE I'll wtf.
Speaking of NYE...any UK people head to St.Ives for New Years Eve! Amazing every single year (Y)

You and I disagree completely on this, and if I met you in person, I would probably yell at you for bitching about snow in a place that's generally full of snow.

MY DAD IS A FUCKING MORON.
He comes in after an hour at the pub and slumps on the settee for the evening. Mum puts the central heating on. Dad wants to go turn it up a little. HE PRESSES ALL THE BUTTONS.
Now we have a broken boiler and no hot water. If we want a shower, we will have to drive to our Nan's house. He's rages because he needs a shower before work.
It's -1 outside at the minute, and I have no heating. It's also the 20th of December and we have a house to clean, which generally requires hot water. We also will probably not get a repair till the new year.
I'll just add that I have a box room with a badly fitted window with no double glazing and holes around the frame (that he fitted), which is directly above the music room with a running draught coming from there.
Nice going Dad, because of your fucking drunk ass decisions, we now have no heating.
And of course, somehow it's Mum's fault. The bastard has never done a thing wrong in his life, it's ALWAYS someone else.
Words can't explain how cold I am, or how angry I am at him.

I did, I was saying while I was there I missed the better food in America. <_< Among other things of course

Though I did quite enjoy the whole pub thing... pub food and atmosphere and such. Quite different than a bar in America.

Also, @Greg, Hoarders is soooooo depressing, because it makes me think of my mother-in-law who does some pretty intense hoarding. Whenever I go in her house I just feel ill, like I'm suffocating. It's definitely a mental disorder, this perception that you can't throw something away because you might need it later (from watching the show it seems to show up in people who grew up poor and didn't have a lot, so that kind of makes sense).

The worst one I saw was this lady who was addicted to Costco and bought all her food in bulk but couldn't eat it all in time before it went bad. But she never threw away the bad food. So her house was so nasty full of bad food and she had like 9 cats too. She would eat expired food all the time and somehow not die (her reasoning was "if it's not puffy, it's still good"). That episode made me sick to watch, at least my mother in law just collects toys (mostly Barbies).

Toronto is not generally full of snow. In fact some Canadians from other places like to make fun of Toronto for calling in the army one year when they got a snowstorm. I would never do that though, because it's not nice.
