What is covered

This is a step by step guide to changing the song names in Guitar Hero 2.
The guide does NOT cover how to make the DVD/ISO.
The guide does NOT cover how to make/replace custom songs.
The guide does cover how to extract DTB Files from the ARK.

What you need

1. Basic understanding of how to replace songs and what the process entails. Read the beginner guide.
2. An ARK editor. Most common is GHex, but ARK Expander or gh-utils will work as well.
3. The Name Editor - GH2 DTB Editor + Utils

Getting Started

The guide assumes you have copied the DVD to your computer as you have read the threads above.

We need to extract config/gen/songs.dtb. I will show this with GHex and ARK Expander.

Using GHex:
Step 1: Open GHex and expand the config folder on the left, then expand the gen folder.
Step 2: Right click on songs.dtb and select extract.

Step 3: Select a location and hit save.

Using ARK Expander:
Step 1: Open ARK Expander. Click 'Browse' next to ARK Folder and select the GEN directory where you copied the GH Disc.
Step 2: Select an output directory by clicking 'Browse' next to Expanded Folder.
Step 3: Hit 'Expand ARK'.
Step 4: After its done. Go to the directory you selected as the output and browse to config/gen/. There should be songs.dtb.

Now what?

We now have the songs.dtb file.
Step 1: Open the Name Editor. Hit 'Open...'. Browse to the location of songs.dtb from the first part. Select it and hit 'Open'.
Step 2: Select a song and edit any data you wish. The left name is the name of the original song in the game (matches GHex folders).

Step 3: Hit 'Save'.
Step 4: Close the file or exit the application. (Important since GHex crashes if the file is locked)

Replace the Original
Using GHex:
Step 1: Go back to GHex and right click on songs.dtb again.
Step 2: Select 'Replace'. Select the now edited version and hit 'Open'.

Using ARK Expander:
Step 1: Go back to ARK Expander and hit 'Create ARK'

Done

The DTB File now contains all the edited song names. Create the ISO normally as if you had replaced a song.

If you run into trouble check the stickies as well as the threads linked above BEFORE posting a question.

Very nice. Not to critique to much but you might want to change the link to the actual name and put "the name editor" in (). Just a thought.

Great! GREAT! Thank you very much. =3 I don't really need it, but it'll hopefully stop most of the 'how to chnge song names!?!?1' threads. Yayzorz.

Amazing guide. Has pictures, includes all steps, makes use of GHEx method and helps the unfortunate few who joined too late to get it before *the incident*. A+, man. Another great contribution by Nachyoz. ^_^

This is a excellent short-and-sweet guide which will undoubtedly stop the "how doo i changes song tittles??!" posts, as stated above. I don't want to nitpick, but I think all your tutorial really needs is a little formatting and it will be perfect. Cheers!

I think my custom discs are about to look much more professional.

Use the DTB Editor, and if my memory is correct, that string is in locale.dtb, but don't quote me on that.

I have to disagree....Good guide and everything but I don't thinkthis place needs another sticky unless we take a few out...Which is not my decision...
