The original intent was to use the piezoelectric spark from the lighter to light it with one hand while playing. I didn't have enough room in the neck to insulate the fret buttons from the electric spark. So I have to use a lighter to get it started. I've done it once or twice in the middle of a song during a long guitar break, but I also have to hold the button down to keep the flame on so I can't use it while actively playing. (This minor safety feature has probably saved me from burning my house down though!)

Being a trained pyromaniac (first a boy scout, now a chemist) I've never burned myself. Although I have attempted to burn my friends of course!
It was especially hilarious watching my friend Rick try to blow it out to save himself. This has been made virtually impossible to do with my newest addition: A metal gas filter:
It's basically a metal tip with millions of tiny holes that diffuse the gas and turn it into a huge ball of flame that can't easily be blown out. It's a larger flame from a single gas tank. I've recently used it to light the room after the power went out during a storm while we were playing. I also had the pleasure of showing it off to a couple of the Harmonix staff as well! _________________

After the flamethrower, this ZZ Top fuzzy spinning guitar was my next project.
Whats next? I'll have to see what inspiration hits me after getting my hands on the Rock Bands guitar/drums/mic.

waste? WASTE?!??! Are you crazy!? This is the reason God invented butane. I'd happily spend my last dollar to refill this baby before thinking about food or shelter.

WOW that flamethrower is awesome. Can you make it like shoot out while you're playing? That would be cool to use at a competition or on stage anywhere. _________________

I can see someone taking the "Battle" mode in GHIII a little too seriously, here. |
