That way you can in no time see if your downloading the right version, duration is ok, but almost always you have to download like 10 different versions before you find the right one. |

Even if two people rip the same track from the same album, it all depends on the program, that it can come out to different sizes. Some take out the silence automatically, for example. So, unfortunately file size is irrevelant. _________________

Every time I have searched for a specific song and matched the file size of the one used by the author of the midi I have gotten the right result, no sync problems what so ever. If you do rip your own cd's the size is irrelevant, but if you search for the song on some p2p-progam its highly relevant that you get a song with the exact same size.
Duration is an okay way to find the right song, but many times i have found several files with different hash values but of the same lenght. And as you know, usually only one of the works.
Conclusion, adding the file size saves me many hours of pointless searching for the correct file. |

Well. Of course the exact same file will yield the correct result, but if the author of the note chart specifies the length and you find a version of the song that's within 2-3 seconds of that length (CD lead-in), then it's pretty simple to just figure out the corresponding offset value.
Also, I have some ideas for easier synching in ghex. _________________
