As you can see, the results of week 2 have been posted. This was a tough challenge so everyone should give themselves a big pat on the back for tackling it.
I'll go ahead and use this space to detail out the final week's twist!
Week 4 Twist: Anything goes, design whatever game you want!
Obviously this final week should get a lot of people excited, I hope everyone has fun with this one and that we see some unique and interesting ideas come out of it!
Lastly, given our experience with this challenge so far, I've reviewed the current requirements for the final challenge (the part where you take your most favorite of the 4 treatments and expand it to a 10-15 page design overview) and the two week time-frame. Would anyone be against having another week or two to work on that one? _________________

aw man, week 4 should be a real problem for me, I though it was easy to think of a good idea when I had limitations. Oh well, I'll see how this goes.
Also, I have no objections to having more time to work on the final project, that way I'm sure I'll be able to work on it. You know, more weekends and stuff. _________________

Question: Do I suck at this? I would be tied for dead last if everyone had submitted for week 2. The biggest problem seems to be that I'm losing a lot of points in my presentation (just compare my score this week with the first place score).
To ImaCarrot:I wasn't trying to cheat with the font. I wrote it at that font, I didn't change it when I was done. The reason it was somewhat short was because I was left with very little time that week to work on it. I wasn't thinking about the size when I wrote it, so I didn't change it to a smaller font. _________________

Just wanted to say thanks to you guys (Ala, and ImaCarrot.) It is really cool that you guys are putting some time into evaluating our ideas. I'm not even doing well, but I'm thrilled that someone is actually reading my ideas, and providing feedback! You almost have to give up limbs for this kind of attention from real professionals, or even your friends, so thanks to you and rock on to those who are getting good reviews.
And no I'm not just sucking a55 for the last round of grading.
Sorry I missed the third week, life gets in the way of fun stuff once in a while.

Since I liked GetThere1Time's last submission I started reading through his first this time. I think the idea would have sounded a lot smoother if you could control your doppelganger through the left thumbstick at all times. Press it in, and there's a small popup showing what directions equal what actions. Press the direction and let go. This lets you change tactics through the battle and really start assisting yourself. Have him as a long range assist until you are almost done for, then retreat and tell him to defend you for a bit. Not only that but it gets rid of the clunky menu interface. With that small change, I think that this game would be something I could really sink my teeth into. I love playing games in small teams and this sounds like you get that feel in a single-player experience.
It also sounds like it'd be more fun if the doppelganger was just always there.
Also, wow, rkcr is on a roll. o.O

hah, I'm running into the same thing. I knew it was coming too since he said one week would have no limitations. Oh well, time to get that noggin workin'. _________________

I'm very excited for this week, I've had my game design in my head for at least a year. And actually, it would've worked well last week. Oh well, then I'd be stumped now! _________________

I like how this challenge is turning out. It really forces me to think about things I haven't before.
Though, it took me forever to come up with an idea for week 3... Thankfully I already have an idea for week 4. That's good, since I can't slack off until the weekend to write it up this time as I'll be out of town. |

I actually think Week 4's freedom will give me problems, it's way harder to think of something when you have nothing to think along the lines of. XD
And yeah, it'd be great to have an extra week to work on the final game design document, exams are round the corner..!! _________________

Guys, you're all doing wonderfully. We're not exactly throwing softballs, and you're all giving us some good reading. This contest has been an absolute blast for me, and I'm sure Carrot feels the same way.
Wafflecake: You're not doing that bad, honestly. Neither one of your ideas were that bad, they just need to be fleshed out a bit more. Also, get someone to proofread your treatments. It can be extremely difficult to catch every mistake you make, and having an extra set of eyes would help. I can see that you have the ideas in your head...they just need a bit of work. Don't be discouraged at all; as I said, everyone is doing great. _________________

Thanks for the nod week 1 btw. Honestly, I just couldn't figure out how to control both at once. I wrote this up in about 30 minutes because the submission was super late. I think I could have come up with something a little better if I had the chance to think about it but submitting something half-assed is better than submitting nothing and getting a big fat goose egg. I ended up writing a fricken novel for week 3. I guess we'll see how that works out. Apparently, I need to stop doing my write ups in wordpad since I'm spelling and grammar impaired. I broke down and got openoffice finally but not until after I submitted my week 3 entry. Here's hopin! _________________

I think my week 2 would have required a special foot controller.
Or two wiimotes. Probably two wiimotes. _________________

I really wish I could've competed in these last two weeks. I had a pretty good idea for week 2, but since I was unexpectedly out of town I never got the opportunity to write it up and send it in. Perhaps I'll still write it up and send it in for some critiques, if you two are willing to go through it for me . I admittedly never got an idea for week 3, but once again, I just didn't have the time to get to it anyways.
Luckily, I have an idea that's been brewing in my head for some time for this week's twist-free challenge. With an idea so clear in my mind and finally having time and continual access to a computer, I should be able to submit for this final week. I just hope I can put it down on paper the way I see it in my head. _________________

Hey everyone, I'm busy reading through the week 3 Treatments now, good stuff so far. I just wanted to post a quick note about the final round.
Everyone should know the format for the finals already, but I'm going to reiterate it now to make sure there isn't any confusion. The twist for the finals is that you must choose one of the Treatments you wrote for one of the previous weeks and develop that idea further. Each contestant should prepare to develop a 10 - 15 page Design Overview that goes into great detail about as much of the game idea as the participant wants to give.
I'll try and put together some examples for you guys to check out so you have an idea of what type of stuff to include soon.
ALSO; Kaiser and I decided that two weeks would be pretty tough for everyone to finish one of these things what with real life obligations and all, so we've extended the deadline another two weeks, giving you guys a full month to really get these design overviews shining. Check the 2nd post for the official date. Of course, the sooner you get these things turned in, the sooner Kaiser and I can critique them and get them back to you.
Good luck everyone, all submissions so far have been great and everyone should be proud of what they've accomplished so far, I can't wait to read the final overviews! _________________
