I don't get it about hitting notes early don't you have to stay within beat? |

There's kind of a small time period "around" the note where it will register. You can strum a little early and it will still count. |

You can actually use this to your advantage...
Everyone's most likely encountered the songs where you'll get two sets of SP notes without any whammy bonus for them, and they'll fill your meter to exactly the amount needed to activate SP. And when you activate it, your star power lasts for a number of beats, which, assuming all notes must be played in perfect timing to be counted, you'd end up missing out on a note either at the beginning of your star power activation, or at the end. If you can master strumming slightly out of sync, you can actually increase the number of notes you can play within a set amount of star power. I noticed this when trying to perfect Even Rats on Expert and using my first SP opportunity in the beginning of the song, I would always activate it at the same time/place, but my strumming would end up giving me a difference of 400 or 600 points overall without missing notes in that segment.
Sorry if this wasn't quite what you were looking for, but I felt like finding a topic to put it in without creating a new one. Hope this is a useful or useable tip though =D. |

Almost every top score with 100% makes use of that technique of "note squeezing". In fact in some cases you can really use the timing window to your advantage and not only strum late/early, but activate the SP at the very latest moment (after the note's true location) just a split second before strumming at the very edge of the timing window. Doing this allowed me to get a "double squeeze" in 2 places in IWBS-Hard.
You can also use the timing window to your advantage on held notes and hit them early and start whammying before the note's true location to get a bit extra SP. This can be demonstrated on the first hold in Infected on Easy or Medium, the hold is only 7.25 beats long, but you can whammy out enough SP to get an activation (7.5 beats worth) if you hit it extremely early and whammy right away. _________________
